Ok, thanks for the info. I think that's resolved. Perhaps if I test later at night I might get the fabled 800 mbps lol. I still think the ONT restart had something to do with the sudden speed increase, but I guess I will never know. What speeds do you get out of your fibre connection btw?

Vocusgroup NZ. It was the same in the browser test.

I understand tests can fluctuate. Mine has never fluctuated that much. Before ONT restart, constant between 200-300. After restart 500-600. After downloading the windows store speedtest app it says over 700. I always use the same vocus server.

It is not a fluctuation.... it is comparing the better Stuff server with the slower Vocusgroup server...

no

it depends on your connection and many different things, but it does pay to test to a few different servers to rule them and the connection to them out as being a bottle neck, which they can be sometimes for one reason or another.

Ideally you should use your providers servers absolutely as that should show the correct speed. (you dont get weird things like for X Y Z reason peering isnt working at this time, or a fibre cut or whatever)

there are tons of reasons why the server might not be performing at full though.

At this stage, it appears your issue is not the connection, but purely the speedtest servers not performing.... @sounddude that one sounds like your sorta issue ;)

So your 723Mbps result using the Vocusgroup speed test server falls at the lower end of the download speed Slingshot claimed - 700 to 900Mbps. You are now within spec.

Stuff Fibre is one several better speed test servers I have found.... there are others...

I guess you are happy with your speed test result now.

Try the speed testing in the morning while gamers and video stream watchers are still sleeping .... you will get even better results :-)
