SNAP!

I had 2degrees gigabit fibre installed today (after a 5-year wait).

My problem is identical to that of the OP - downstream 100 Mbps, upstream 470 Mbps

All testing via ethernet.
I know it's not my hardware - tested on 2 new desktops, both of which ran at 950 Mbps down with my previous Vodafone gigabit HFC cable connection.
My FRITZ!Box 7530 settings are OK:

Internet > Account information > Change connection settings > via an external modem >

Downstream 1000 Mbit/s
Upstream 1000 Mbit/s

Should I wait, or start nagging 2degrees now?

Isn't this a known issue with all fibre connections? The first 24 hours it might not be correct? I've seen it at least 3 times on here in old posts?

Hi All,

Resolved - The trigger is the work order being closed by the installer/provider triggers then use automation to adjust to the correct profile. We set all router profiles to 100mb for initial dial home the adjust accordingly. By the looks the job isnt closed, and therefore automation hasn't done is wizz bang things.

I spent a fair amount of time putting together this guide, and it's a sticky post on the 2degrees forum - https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=85&topicid=239862. See section

3. Fritzbox Router Configuration where it talks about automation/adjustment of speed.

No hardware or configuration changes required.

Looks like the proper provsioning was applied for my connection sometime today. Just got home and tested, now getting 930 Mbps down 530 up via ethernet.

Why is this the case? Presumably the LFC is shaping the connection already, so why does 2degrees need to do this as well (is this a form of QoS)? If so, why not just default it to 1 Gbps instead of 100 Mbps if it's only going to take 24 hours or so?

I used to have customers call me up with this same issue fairly often when I was working there during the transition between Snap and 2degrees so this issue has been going on for some years now. You used to have to SSH into some server (which had a cheeky name I cannot remember off of the top of my head) to check the profile the customer was provisioned with. Disappointing that it is still not resolved, especially so given that we know that we cannot rely on the LFC to always close off the order 100%.

While LFC's do shaping, providers also should do their bit too.

Saves LFC's being hammered by an attack like is seen on some of the chorus reports.

i would expect the second part of the question is, 2d pick 100mbit as an acceptable rate for their network when it's not complete. rare something would be in this situation.

Because there would be much worse performance if it was left just to the LFCs.

Sorted out some back-end provisioning. Who knew you could smash these speeds over wifi on a 5 year old MBP.
