Exactly.

Glad my work was noticed :P ... I still have no qualms or issues with CP/SS except for how crap my connection is .... but thats not hard to fix ... afaik....

Basically the guy that used to do the QoS (Bites on gpforums) left slingshot or was let go or whatever... over a month ago. Before he left people say QoS was perfect.

I think that Bites guy was sacked and what ever he says is comming from a disgruntalled emploie. He was not 'sacked' and he was also not the only one from their network/systems teamwho no longer works there. Rumors have this funny way of growing and sounding more scandelis each time the message is relayed on.

Agreed. Thinking this is some kind of conspiracy to try and disrupt the company if dismissed is just plain retarded. Some people were suggesting that he was possibly used as a scapegoat for the whole caching mix up thing or something, though of course just rumours.

I love a good conspiracy....but frankly I think some people try to hard to make things something when in actual fact it is nothing but perhaps a mistake, communication issues, or just plain deafness.

Anyway, new billing period started. only got 3.16GB downloaded in a night. Comparing this to a few months ago I was able to happily download over 10GB a night.

Microsoft Technet ISO images are throttled, shaped, or whatever. Used to get average 300-500kb now struggling to get over 150-200kb. Have a queue of about 15 files (+30GB) so that is going to take a while over the next few weeks at least.

I have a feeling that Slingshot are not only shaping, throttling during the free data period, but also during the day. I cannot get decent speeds from Microsoft's specialist file downloading source anytime during the day, and I also not rapidshare is also flaky with speeds.

Either slingshot is shaping everything all the time or the NZ link has some serious issues right now.

Add another 2.12GB downloaded last night. Again over 10GB shy of previous nights before the free data plans were introduced.

I think I will keep posting this useless information so people can see how it is going at slingshot after 1am.

Add another 3.55GB last night. That is the best yet for this month. A surprise really, but still well short of the 10-14GB

On a sad note, my technet downloads were cancelled for taking over a week. Now I will have to do more browsing and add them all again. What a pain. Not to mention that will come off my non free data cap as I will do it before 1am as I need some sleep.

Slingshot, I am now advising anyone who asks me which ISP should they use to not use Slingshot. Withover 10 years IT experience I think I have enough information about what is going on and why to decide that slingshot are wasting our time and money with this.

Thanks for the warning. Was seriously considering them, as an alternative to my shoddy XNet connection. The 12-month contract was offputting enough, but reports like this have steered me away too. Thanks.

only 2GB on Saturday night. another dissappointment.

To recap the previous days I got the following:
Tues 3.16GB
Wed 2.12GB
Thur 3.55B
Fri 2.7GB

So overall no good results for the week. Are other people stuck within the 2GB to 4GB limit I seem to be hitting?

I agree with all of this, slingshot has got real crud. Im a student and pay $60p/m with tolls to slingshot. I like to download movies and havent really had the patients to for around 1month now.

ive seen speeds of 12kb/s on the inferno plan downloading straight from (http).
I am seriolsly considering cutting slingshot off, but the $150 fee is a burdon to my $180 allowance.

Get with it slingshot, and hurry the **** up...

I think we need to put these download figures into a bit of context. Frankly, for the average person, getting between 2-4 GB per night is hardly a problem.

For example, you have managed to get 11.53GB over the week, that equates to:
- Aprrox 33 TV Episodes (average non-HD episode is about 350MB), or
- Approx 16 Movies (average non-HD movie is about 750MB).

Sure you may need more, but as a I said, for the average punter this isn't really something to moan about.

Yeah, the files eventually get there when left, but they did as well back when I was on a 256k flat rate connection which cost a hell of a lot less then naked dsl does nowdays.

If I am wanting to grab a driver for a piece of hardware or something, at peak times the delay is totally unacceptable, at off peak its almost as bad.

Same for watching videos on vimeo, even youtube is iffy sometimes with its low bitrate rubbish quality.

20kBps is what I'm currently getting on a torrent (VERY well seeded, high throughput). On Xnet, I was always able to get >100kBps on such torrents (even right before leaving when HTTP downloads were around 40kBps)

But the whole point of Slingshots new free download plans is to move heavy users to a time slot that doesn't affect the average user. So in context these full speed plans are not for the average user, and why would you pay a high price for a full speed service when 256k will do the job. And what average user is going to download TV and movies? Try email and news.

All in all we are worse off.

I am still waiting on my technet iso's, I think by the time Windows 7 is out next year I might have cleared the queue and be ready for it.
