I have the same ongoing issues too, have also modified the wifi Channel, it's so bad now that when I'm on my cellphone at home I turn off wifi as wifi calling constantly drops out.

This is the reason I left 2degrees and went with another provider (with their recommended/supplied router) – the Fritzbox just hated all of our Apple products (iPhones, Watches, Apple TVs, iPads, MacBooks).

I couldn't bear trying to get it troubleshooted as I imagine it would've been a lot of "reset to factory defaults and let us know".

I have had the issue with wifi calling for 18 months with no resolution. After factory resets etc, the support team gave up and decided it was a faulty iphone. I will be getting a new phone soon when iphone 12's are released, but dont expect it to work. We shall see.

I have a new IPhone SE that my partner bought. I know it’s just a basic model but it is new and there’s no reason to suspect it’s an issue with my phone.

Something else worth investigating would be to use your old Fritz as an extender - if this is a proximity issue.
7390's can be used as extenders.

I am curious that your 7590 is seemingly less reliable than your old 7390..

I actually tried that already. The 7390 as a wired extender works great with all the phones in the house, tablet, HP laptop, but does not work properly with my Surface Laptop 2. Download speed is fine on every device, but upload speed on the surface is virtually zero - measures in bits per second from memory - unusable. I'm hopefully getting a new laptop soon so it might become practical again. Of course my laptop is wired most of the time, so doesn't really matter, but I'd rather not have to run more WAPs than I need.

7590 wireless, when it's not cut out, is much much stronger and faster than the 7390. I'll just have to try to get it working properly. I might try disabling 5GHz for a while to see if that makes things better.

I wonder if something environmental could be doing it. Neighbors microwave, CB radio, etc. If so how would you diagnose that?

I actually had the radio interference people come and investigate possible interference. After quite a bit of onsite testing they concluded that there was no radio interference. I have done so much to try and get wifi calling operating without cutouts, yet had so little assistance from 2 degrees.

The issue with your Surface Laptop almost sounds like an issue with the network drivers. And fair play, not everybody wants to have more WAPs than you need to. I just recently removed a WAP from my own network because it wasn't really doing anything.
I guess disabling 5GHz will show you if the interference is sitting in this spectrum, so if the dropouts etc continue we've at least pinpointed which spectrum to look for the offending in.

There's a spectrum analyzer in the Fritz's GUI that shows what frequency is being used and when. So if you can try using WLAN like you normally would and keep half an eye on what's going on around you when the issue pops up. Also turn on the "WLAN registrations and de-registrations" in the Event Logs (I don't think this is turned on by default) - then you'll have some data captured to work from. There's also app's for mobile devices that can sniff around at wireless frequency usage surround you. These can be a bit dirty though.

On the other thread I linked to I tried other drivers, didn't help. Apparently they just use poor quality WiFi in their very expensive laptops. Works fine most of the time.

I'll keep an eye on the Fritz control panel, but I've never seen the "interference" shown, even though it apparently does look for it. Nothing in the WiFi log either, I turned on extra logging and checked it.

2.4GHz is doing the same thing. Here's the event log (I removed IP / device name / MAC). Signal strength is good.

Wireless device was deregistered (07:12:59)
Then I picked up phone to use, no wifi, watched it for 15 seconds before putting it down
Wireless device was deregistered (07:13:23)

When I deliberately turn WiFi off the event log entry is a bit different

22:48 Wireless device deregistered itself

There isn't any interference.

I've gone through the troubleshooting guide. The only step I haven't done is removing USB3.0 devices. I have a Raspberry Pi plugged in, I'm just using the Fritz as a power supply. I guess I'll put a proper power supply up there and see what happens.

Any other ideas? I still don't want to call 2degrees because first level helpdesk will make me do a full reset, it's annoying to reconfigure things like the PiHole and have to reset all my WiFi devices around the house - I have a half dozen home automation devices.

Even if you do a full reset you can do the WiFi last - reconfigure network settings to match what was used before the reset, change other options, then change WiFi password on default SSID, then lastly change SSID to what you have been using before. This way your devices will automatically connect to WiFi without having to do anything.

That's a good point thanks M. Then I just have to do a bit of work to get the VPN up and working again, and delegate DNS, so not a huge amount of work. I guess I'll call 2degrees some time when I have an hour free...
