DjShadow:

I've had the same exact issue with Buffering on Youtube and Google Maps being very slow to respond. I have since moved onto a Static IP (to stop remote RDP sessions dropping) and it hasn't really been much of a problem since.

Wellington UFB - gig speed

@arnies - if you don't have one already is it worth asking 2degrees to temporarily (as part of troubleshooting) assign you a static IP? This'll then help rule out CGNAT too.

Using static IP at home and at work (both Auckland, Gig UFB), both showing the same behaviour. Doesn't seem to be related to CGNAT...

I've noticed issues with other Google services too, such as docs taking forever to finish loading, and calendar handing while loading events some times.

It's all appeared (for me) in the last few months. I tried using Safari rather than Brave on my Mac and Youtube at least seemed to load quicker, however previously I've had the same issue on my iPhone so I'm not sure it's browser specific.

I have a static IP already.

I've also got a static IP. Also disabling IPv6 doesn't help, and it occurs on any router and DNS doesn't make a difference (I use 2degrees DNS servers anyway).

I've seriously done all the troubleshooting I can except phoning them as yes, it is rubbish but it still works.

Seems normal for me, both Youtube and Google Maps. 2D Gigabit in Auckland.

I do occasionally encounter buffering on Youtube, but when it does it's usually on older content that I assume isn't available within NZ and has to be pulled from overseas. Refreshing the page after encountering such a video usually resolves it.

I've also been experiencing this on 2 Degrees Gigabit fibre, using Fritzbox and Microsoft Chromium Edge, get the 'Experiencing interruptions' pop up when it does happen and a quality drop.

@morganbrowne it might be time to have someone in networks look at this?

I looked into this again just now. It seems like that long loading file might be desktop_polymer_inlined_html_polymer_flags.js - at least it is for me. In my case it's a 7.7MB file (really Google), that took 33.9seconds to download.

Full URL: https://www.youtube.com/s/desktop/677734b5/jsbin/desktop_polymer_inlined_html_polymer_flags.vflset/desktop_polymer_inlined_html_polymer_flags.js

It doesn't always take that long so maybe theres some bad routing that is happening somewhere?

I've also been seeing intermittent issues with loading on YT. stats for nerds shows it being limited to about 2Mb/s, then sometimes popping up to tens or hundreds where I would expect it to be.

For example, this video:

You can see the previous video had speeds in the blue/green region - plenty to stream 4K. Load a new video, and it gets stuck between about 1700 and 2200kbps

Given enough time, usually it will suddenly speed up to a reasonable line speed.

Again, 2degrees, UFB, Wellington, static IP. Have tried multiple browsers, haven't really checked on other machines.

Same for me just now.

In this case it loaded quickly (green/blue in pic above) then I paused it while sending an email. When i came back the connection perf had dropped to above.

At the same time my Gmail completely went to a crawl too.

Have also noticed this issue. In some instances, I've had to revert to 3G/4G to get it working. Otherwise connection has been good.

Mine sits between 22000 and 44000 Kbps, and buffer health is between 80 and 90 seconds, on LGTV, wifi 2.4GHz

Haven't noticed any problems on YouTube on iOS, Smart TV's and did a short test on Firefox and loaded straight away.

Maybe it's location based, otherwise a bad set of IP's? If location it's fine in Christchurch here.

2degrees Fibre 200/100, static IP
