yitz:

Were you using the Fritzbox when you were on Contact Broadband (I recall they issue Netcomms) or only since switching to 2degrees?

I am wondering if there is some interoperability issue between Fritzbox and specific ONTs after perhaps an update?

Nope, I used a Contact supplied Netcomm when i was with Contact.

Try using the PPPoE dialler on your PC when it is plugged directly into the ONT. May be worth a try and see if the connection drops then too.

Have any friends locally that you can borrow a spare router from?
(remember to do a factory reset of it when you borrow it, before testing your connection and before you return it!)
As preference, go for another Fritzbox model 7490 or Huawei HG659 flashed with the Bigpipe firmware (instructions on the Bigpipe support page).
Definitely worth trying another router at this point!
And not the NetComm ones I haven't ever had a good experience with one of those (admittedly only sample size of 2x but both sucked)
Cheers

I may be able to answer the server connection issues, 2dm uses CGNAT which makes it impossible to host servers and troublesome to connect to some servers. You could request a Static IP and see if that works, it's an extra $10/month I believe.

I had constant issues with 2degrees ended up going back to Orcon, and rarely ever have issues.

I had a very similar problem when I first joined a few years ago, I was switching from Orcon to 2dreeges - they said they would contact orcon and start the change over but they never contacted them and when they changed me over they connected me to LAN2 on my ONT.

The only reason I even found out was because I rang them because I was ment to be on full speed but was still on 100/20 and they said "oh we see you already had a connection so they set you up on LAN2".

So long story short if they switched you over try using LAN2 and see if you get a connection and if so do a speed test and see if that helps you.

Also contact your old ISP and make sure your account is closed.

Let me know if this helps you. :)

When the router is connected to ONT port LAN 2, there is no internet connection at all and the ONT LAN 2 light does not light up.

Thanks for the suggestion thou

I don't know anyone else with a 2d compatible router. That said, I don't think my brand new, factory reset new 2d Fritzbox 7560 would be the issue.

@Invoker Just log a fault if you have not already… apart from the configuration issue I mentioned it appears a fault with your ONT / UFB service. It is unrelated to CG-NAT or anything like that. To 99% of people including many gamers you wouldn’t even notice you were on CG-NAT also.

This sounds like your house is posessed by a broadband demon.  In these circumstances I usually recommend you move house.

I'm not saying this is the issue, but I dealt with a similar-ish looking issue a year or so ago, and it turned out in the end that Chorus replaced the ONT, issue gone. Was a very weird one & without the help of a rep from the ISP in question here on the forums, I think it would have been a nightmare to try & resolve.

In my case, the speeds were generally degraded all the time (like sub 15mbps), downloads constantly timing out, sites not loading sometimes...was very weird.

Just called into 2d support and fault logged with Chorus. I just wished I'd logged the fault when I was with Contact as they were cheaper.

Update on my issue.

  • Chorus replaced the ONT and tested my connection. The connect was still dropping out, high latency, low upload speed.
  • I then called 2d and requested a static IPV6 address and reset my router.
  • Once the router went back online. Superb download and upload speeds, low latency and no more drop outs since 4pm yesterday.

Looks to me like the issue was the dynamic IPV6 addresses assigned by 2d or issues with CGNAT

Which were solved by a static IPV6 address
