Probably going to be a similar situation for me as that is the plan I am on, though have yet to get a letter.  Looking at my usage I have about 36Gb and just under 3600 minutes, though I think I've kept to this plan (vs prepay) is so I can share some data with my family seeing as I've always had a lot spare.

Will wait to see if a letter turns up about it.

Spong:

All of us are relying on mobile data more than ever right now and we’re always looking for better ways to keep our customers connected. That’s why we’re making some changes to our Pay Monthly plans and from 13 December, we’ll be ending your current $30 Carryover plan.

2D's head office obviously isn't in Auckland. I've used about 100MB in the past three months...

I'm on a now superseded 2Degrees plan and haven't been contacted yet.

I'm on the old $55/month plan with 10Gb/month. I'm on that one, as that was the entry point to the sharing, where the data pool can be shared, in my case with my wife. In total, paying $80/month, effectively costing me $25 for the wife added to the plan.

Now, the 10Gb, $55/Month plan is 12Gb, $60 a month and $30 to add additional people.

I definitely don't need extra data, as my carry over balance is around 50Gb

In speaking with a 2D staff member in store earlier in the week,, I can stay on my plan, but any new customer's have to go to the new $60 a month plan.

Hold your ground, and threaten to take your business elsewhere.

I was on the $30 plan because it was the easiest way to get data on my tablet, but looking at Kogan, it may be cheaper to just get two separate prepay plans, one for phone, one for tablet (though I guess I would have to activate the tablet sim on a phone first)

Only the retired $30 plan is affected by this change. Everybody else is staying where they are.

My Guess is $30 barely covers access to the network

$5 extra per month for Seniors and Beneficiaries can be a huge chunk of change

Especially if they are rolling over their current data and don’t need that extra GB

This reminds me of 2001 when Vodafone tried to roll everyone off the $60 per month unlimited talk/txt bellsouth plan to the point people we’re offered $10k to get off it

They were losing bucket loads of cash with that plan in 2001 with all the inter carrier termination fees

Yeah same position here. I have maxed roll-over data and minutes and only keep the $30/month plan since it gives me $10 off my monthly broadband bill.

Extra incentive to make the switch to $10/month prepay I guess.

The $10 2degrees Prepay plan is perfect for the elderly the $9 Skinny one is not even close to the same value! Skinny no carryover

I just got the letter.  The only reason that I am on pay monthly is the free data sharing.  The letter is silent on whether this will be carried over onto the new plan.  Does anyone know whether data sharing will still be free on the new plan?

michaelmurfy: I don’t think forcing people is the best way of going, this is just going to drive them away to search for other deals (warehouse mobile, Kogan, skinny or prepaid). I fully think they should have kept the price the same for existing customers if they had to move them.

They’re banging on about attempting to get more postpaid customers but everything they’ve done this year is the absolute wrong way of doing this.

Yes, it seems strange when telecoms costs are reducing to go and put up the price. I've been on the $35 plan for years and have over 20GB carry over and nearly 1000 NZ and Aus minutes (Yes I know it's sad) so more of either is utterly pointless. As for the free data hour i've never used it and probably never will so doubling it is equally pointless.

Basically it's a price increase (14%) pure and simple.

Telecoms costs are reducing sorry where did this come from? 2degrees are deploying a new Ericsson Core and RAN for a start and costs are going up to run the business same for SparkNZ and VodafoneNZ

Please provide evidence that costs are reducing? Staff will be wanting pay rises as the cost of living increases
