The contract is more than likely considered fair - if the price is changed the consumer can terminate the contract.

Correct and this would be fair

Still 6 months to go with my account price increased from $79 to $82. I'm still happy with the quality of their service.

Could I relock myself again to 12 months for $75 and get Prime? I also have a mobile plan should it also reduce to just $65?

Right... I feel the need to step in and stamp out some misconceptions here.

I'm a customer - I am also out of contract and get billed the full amount (no discounts for me apart from the mobile discount). I'm happy with the quality of service and frankly don't care about $3 over a month yet alone the $16 per month if I gave them a call and re-contract.

And guess what... In their email they have this: https://www.2degrees.nz/help/account-and-billing/billing-and-payment/unlimited-and-ultimate-unlimited-plan-price-increase#cancel-my-plan

From my understanding they've given you a free chance to go pick another provider if you wish to within 30 days of getting the notice free of charge. If you're unhappy, just leave and pick another provider... If you're happy then understand all providers are basically upping their pricing. This is totally fair.

So instead of firing up a thread stating you're locked in just understand this is not at all the case; you're free to leave but really everyone is making a lot of fuss over nothing or didn't read their emails.

I also got email. As above in email they say if within one month of receiving if cancel they will waive the early contract termination fee. I find this fair.

I did a customer survey form recently and noted in it they are only competitive in my view if ring up and ask for contract deal or new customer getting deal. I also noted that I’m very happy with service reliability and speed and find the Fritz router top notch.

If you're not happy just cancel and move to a different provider. That's what I did with only being with them for five months. No issues from either end as long as it's done within the time frame of the email.

Meh - $3 increase. Internet in NZ is far too cheap anyway, My in laws in the US pay $80 USD ($130 NZD) for gigabit which is capped at 1.25TB and is FTTN not FTTP.

We actually got it pretty good here.

I guess the point of the matter is before the increase of $3 the price was $89/m with a $14/m discount for signing up on a 12 month contract, meaning the total cost was now $75/m

now that the increase is now in place the price is $92/m with a $17/m discount for signing up on a 12 month contract, STILL meaning the total cost is $75/m

so... old contract holders have to pay the $3/m extra and new contract holders that sign up now dont have to pay the $3/m

abit of a kick in the guts for old contract holders to pay $78/m and new ones pay $75/m

I dont know how many other ways it can be explained to have others see the point?

Some people just don't want to see the point.

I'm not a 2D customer, but the details are what matters, not the amounts involved or what offers are made to new/existing customers.

If you have a fixed price/term agreement, you have every reason to expect to receive the service at the stated price for the entirety of the contract. There likely are clauses which allow prices to increase under a narrow set of circumstances, such as network costs increasing (which they have). If there is no such clause, you have a valid grievance and you should first raise it with 2D and if they don't play nicely you can take the matter to Utilities Disputes https://www.udl.co.nz or if the matter is widespread an potentially affecting many users, the Commerce Commission. You could go to the Disputes Tribunal, but you can't claim filing costs, which already exceed what you'd get back.

The ability to leave without incurring a fee is NOT a fair resolution. What if you can't get equivalent service at the contracted price or less? You're still in a loss situation if that's the case.

Do keep in mind that the price increase is a direct result of price increases from the providers (eg Chorus etc) - you are likely to find prices increasing with many companies.

The other thing is, 2degrees have given you an exit without penalty to that is more than an acceptable for the price increase.

This , in big fiery glowing letters,

Its the flow through of a regulated UFB price increase from Chorus, you won't escape it by shifting fibre providers,

$3 sounds quite generous to me. Vodafone are hitting me with a $6 increase.

the point of the matter is that 2degrees are still offering $75/m for their 300/100 plan despite the increase, the 12 month discount shifted from $14/m to $17/m and new customers get it $3 cheaper than the old customers.

Don't really care about how the price increase is apparent. the fact of the matter is that 2Degrees should honor the contract that you sign up for and therefore after the contract then change the price..
