@mattwnz You seem to have a lot more faith in iServe/Vocus/whomever and MyHost than I do, but I guess we can live in hope. Fortunately most of the sites I've got left on iServe are small brochure sites so if they give us enough time then I'm sure I can get everything working on MyHost.

My main concern at the moment is if MyHost will honour the life-time free hosting that iServe promised us back in 2006.

I've emailed iServe support to ask this and a couple of other questions but I'm not expecting an answer any time soon. The support guy I spoke to on the phone said they'd been receiving calls all day about shutting down the domain registration service and that this had been sprung on them with no warning and he didn't even seem to know about the LifePlan plans.

I have setup a new topic for this at https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=81&topicid=300830 Hopefully @2degrees will fill customers in on this.

@freitasm Can the heading of this topic please be changed to mention iSERVE and Kiwi Web hosting services. Many of their customers may not be aware that they were purchased by 2degrees and this change now also covers web hosting.

@MurrayM Have you heard anything back from them? I emailed @2degrees last week and still haven't heard anything back at all. It makes me wonder if they weren't aware that there were people with Lifetime hosting plans with them after buying Vocus and Orcon before that.

@mattwnz Nope, haven't heard anything back from them. But that's pretty much par for course with my support requests with them.

10 days since I sent in a support request email asking what will be happening for customers with Lifetime hosting plans and the only response I've had was an acknowledgement of receipt.

Sorry, not something I have been across but perhaps @SarahRykers could assist?

I have received notices from Orcon about the changes and the move of Domain Name Registration and DNS hosting to MyHost.

I have replied and advised that they need to ensure a smooth transition of DNS including change of NS Records and ensuring the DNS lookups remain active during the transition (or until all TTLs have expired). Anything less is unforgivable.

Orcon also have monthly billing for .nz domain names. They advised that they are going to bill for a whole year THEN move the domain to MyHost. This is unacceptable behaviour and against the terms of service I have with them as a Reseller. They are trying to gain vast amounts of upfront revenue before the domain transition and ensure MyHost cannot renew those domains for another year or more, and gain the respective revenue. Some of the domains on my account are not due for renewal yet and they still renewed them for another 12 months and billed me for them! (MyHost have a lower annual domain name cost than Orcon so this has cost both myself and my customers a considerable amount more than it should have).

I have filed a complaint with the Domain Name Comissioner and will take this matter further. Voyage Digital (NZ) Limited t/a 2Degrees (owner of all the above companies) has engaged in anti-competitive behaviour which is unacceptable and unauthorised.

In addtition to this, they have communicated with the domain name OWNER and not the Orcon Account Holder (me) for which the account the domain names are on. Thereby bypassing their commercial relationship with myself and communicating with the domain owner of which they are not authorised. This has created mass confusion among my customers and I've had numerous queries regarding their emails. At the very least they should have been communicating with the domain's Technical Contact which in most cases is registered as me.  Customers/End Users usually have no idea about domain name registration let alone DNS complexities. This is a commercial breach of privacy.

Has anyone else had these sorts of feelings about the underhanded behaviour in this so-called transition? Does anyone agree with me on this or strongly disagree? I'm quite passionate about being true and fair and this transition appears to be anything but.

I agree that extending the domain names by a year and charging for it just before moving them over to MyHost seems like a money-grab. It will be interesting to see what the DNC makes of this.

Fortunately I only had three domain names still with iServe and I moved them out the same day that I received the email from them explaining the move, so this doesn't affect me directly. But it seems underhanded and makes me even more concerned about how they're going to handle moving the hosting and those of us on the Lifeplan plans.

I wonder why they still haven't contacted affected lifeplan owners with their plans.  I contacted them 7 business days ago to ask them what the story was, and still no reply apart from an automated email from @2degrees business support. I have followed it up with them with a request for it to be escalated to @2degrees manager.

@dacam Are you an iServe customer, and using the IDM system? Or were you using Orcons own domain system?

I agree with you that this hasn't been handled or communicated well and many aspects of it just aren't right. Do you know if the domains you have with them on behalf clients will be transferred to MyHost under your account or will they be creating new accounts for your clients? I have asked Orcon support about this and they didn't know if this would be the case or not. They're meant to be getting back to me.

I have yet to get a response from Orcon on that either. It SHOULD be under my account, otherwise they are effectively taking the client and dealing directly which I think a few agencies would be interested in hearing about. Surely I can't be the only one in this boat. The implications of this could be vast and widespread.

I've had a preliminary response from the Domain Name Commission and they are discussing it internally at present.

Still no reply from @2degrees despite emailing them 2 weeks ago and also sending a follow up. It makes me wonder what is going on.
