I have pickup both GSM and 2100 3G from NZComms sites, so definitely think they will have 2100 3G as part of their mix.

sbiddle: The logical assumption would be for a 900 GSM / 2100 WCDMA network but the possibility of them deploying 850 WCDMA and 900 GSM certainly couldn't be ruled out. NZ Comms certainly have done a very good job keeping things quiet..

I guess that depends if NZ Comms want to attract BYO handset customers or they want to sell them a new phone. I would be inclined to say they would go with 900 MHz GSM and 2100 MHz UMTS.

Telecom NZ however has a whole lot of GSM 850 MHz equipment for sale, but doubtful, a) NZ Comms would be interested and b) Telecom would sell it to them.

I also think NZ Comms should look to UMTS rather than GSM, as if they launch with GSM, they are going to find it hard to migrate customers off that platform and need to convince their customers to buy a new handset.

GSM is going to be around for a while plus they still get revenue from inbound and outbound roaming. It is going to be easy to attract Vfone customers and they only have to supply them a SIM card.

I think that could be the only reason to stick with GSM, shouldnt be too hard to convince people to swap off vodafone at the moment, the barrier to changing to telecom up till now has being the handsets, now with nzcomms it will have zero entry barrier if they dont charge the earth for simcards like vodafone do.

Perhaps with some competition we will see sims start to go for $0 like overseas.
