Yeah, well the only reason i chose Orcon was because Slingshot who i am with now, have delayed - yet again the ADSL2+ rollout (or Telecom, whatever).
Long story short, I dont have ADSL2+. I want it. and Slingshot cant provide it.

Not to mention, its also cheaper for me to move to Orcon currently.

and like you said, you can move anytime you want - another thing which attracted me.

At the moment, the way I see it is that:

Im moving to Orcon because Slingshot don't provide what I want.. YET.

If my stay with Orcon is plesent, I won't move back to Slingshot when ADSL2+ is finally avaliable.

But if it isnt, then I guess I will be moving.. again.

But even then, I dont know whether I will move unless Orcon's internet sucks enitrely and it ends up being a waste of time because we cant even get Caller ID here (Whangaparaoa). Only Orcon can give us Caller ID.
Telecom/Chorus have delayed our exchange upgrades for a few years from what i've been told, so luck isnt on my side.

Hi All,

before i go into what happened.. i'd like to reply to the last couple of users about orcon..

orcon is good, good and reliable service (I'll only say this for internet and phone)..
my case was an "isolated" case.. and the people who delt with it maybe didn't know any better.. all i can say, maybe they need more training and common sense...

in the end, the problem was solved by Simon (a geekzone user and orcon network engineer) who identified the problem and fixed it with in couple of hours.. thanks Simon.. hence my point earlier of more training...

anyway so my internet went back to the way as it should be, and i didn't need to test the other modem...

I did recieve the other modem anyway and tested it and my internet was the same speed, connection/sync rates same, line attributes same.. everything was the same as my Linksys..

in the end i was right (woohoo).. there was nothing wrong with my modem.. i had to go and fork out $130 for a new modem (which i'm OK with) but in the end i didn't really need a new one.. just a configuration error on there end i guess..

I just switched from standard Orcon to Orcon home+ (LLU). As soon as the switch was made my internet went down completely. After a couple of calls to the helpdesk I had my profile changed to ADSL1 and I have internet again but basicly I have been told that my Linksys AM300 router is not compatible with Orcon's network and they are sending me a Dynalink to try.

It does seem unusual to me that a common and reputable brand router link Linksys will not work with Orcon's ADSL 2+ !!

I guess I'll wait and see how the Dynalink goes...

Just to let you guys know, i have just moved to Orcon from Slingshot (it was activated within less than an hour [both phone and internet] yesteday)

I did not have any issues as far as moving over.

I entered my orcon details as soon as my internet connection went down.. 10 minutes later after inputting my orcon details. hey presto my internet was now working on the Orcon+ network.

so 5*'s from me. Absolutely brilliant team to deal with.

As far as my modem goes.. I chose not to get one (I signed up online)
my Netgear works 110%.

what model do you have?

Out of curiousity, is my sync speeds okay?

My upload seems a little.. low? ( was expecting something a little better than that)

...and so it should be. The question is, are Linksys routers crap or does Orcon have some issues?

My past experience with Linksys products is good, certainly better than with some of those Dynalink products that crap out in under 1yr...

Those look fine! You can't get much better upload speed with ADSL2+ Annex A.

Linksys routers have a history of overheating etc. The features are great, but the internal design maybe not.
