pwner:
are you able to provide some example IPs which you are having issues downloading from, this way we can investigate further and see what is causing the issue.
Happy Friday. Any luck solving this one, or is it just what it is from now on?

My VDSL has dropped from 60Mbps to 27Mbps.
I'm on fiber and tonight I can't get over 59 kb/s from usenet, restarted router twice and same speed. Do a speedtest and it's still over 700 Mb/s so I'm not sure what Orcon/2degrees are doing... first time this has happened in a long time

I just tested and i can still get the 30-40MBs
its abysmal for the plan that we are on, current speed over the last 60sec

Just note there are a whole lot of fibre cuts in the EU due to conflict. This is affecting Usenet services based over in Amsterdam. I get around 80MB/s via Quic but they also had issues and had to work rather hard to route around it.
You can really see it in all EU services, but Eweka is a good example too: https://smokeping.interwebz.nz/smokeping/?target=InternetHosts.EwekaUN

Is there any potential way around it? I've used a vpn on region coded sites but never tried it to download from usenet. I'm hoping it just works as normal tomorrow but have no idea if it will be.
Well this is dead in the water. Might finally hunt around ISPs. cbf 🙄

Missed this but the answer is not really. From what I've heard traffic costs on uncongested routes have skyrocketed since the conflict and there is a whole lot of cut fibre in the red sea joining Asia to the EU. Some routes are going via the US over to the EU currently on some providers which is less than ideal. I am personally however getting between 60-90MB/sec depending on time but routes are indeed congested. You can sorta see this on my Smokeping with the odd belt of packet loss here for example: https://smokeping.interwebz.nz/smokeping/?target=InternetHosts.FrugalUN
However as many have - Usenet automation takes care of the whole speed concern. For me, the speeds I get are fine as I don't personally have to manage anything here.

Sad to leave 'Snap' after so long, but this pushed me to sign up with Quic. Will see this afternoon if my usenet speeds have change dnad post here, but latency is certainly better for Chch.

On Quic Hyperfibre however not the best configuration given I have mainly still only got a Gigabit network I quite often see 170MB/sec on Usenet on a host with a LAC to my switch.
I do however have a few Usenet hosts -
Frugal Usenet
Eweka
Newsdemon
Newshosting
Stingyusenet
It does help having a selection and also downloading to a SSD - I keep an eye out on Reddit (/r/usenet) for deals which come up quite often. Frugal is my favorite as it comes with a block account and by itself is pretty quick.
Also @Psilan there is a Discord that is reasonably active with both Quic staff along with customers. You can join it in your Quic portal.
