The problem is consents + landscaping issues. Seen this issue a few times when FWA(mostly FWA but sometimes with DSL) isn't suitable anymore > the moment I say go to UFB it's either consents issue or landscaping issues(I.E they don't want their nice driveway cut up or their garden dug).

Can lead a horse to water but can't make it drink it kind of situation. But also sometimes it's out of their control (landlord keeps saying no or a third party in a MDU).

Partly the reason I didn't change to fibre earlier, back section & going to have to go through/under a drive. I also wasn't sure where to put the ONT, I seen some people end up with it on their kitchen bench along with the modem, as that's where the phone was originally.

Hopefully Chris can get the fault booked and you can start the process of getting UFB installed in the mean time to get away from an ageing network that needs to be retired sooner rather than later.

I've had confirmation from Enable that a fibre connection has been requested.
When I rang 2D in the weekend the tech noted that my request had stalled in the 2D system for 2 weeks. They pushed it through as urgent this morning due to my VDSL issues.

I didn't realise you were in an Enable region, arguably they are way better to deal with (in comparison to Chorus) for Fibre Installs - They are actually customer facing, and have a smaller area to handle so I wouldn't expect a crazy delay on scoping & install.

Then you tell them that you can no longer provide them with a service that meets your standards and agree to let them off any term contract. There is nothing forcing a retailer to on-sell a substandard service.

Enable will (should) do a nice tidy install, even if the free install is not up to standards you can pay for thrusting of the fibre cable as your expense.

MDU and Neighbours is where it gets tricky, epically if you are behind a driveway of some old grandma who just uses FA data on a wireless connection and doesn't want a cable to be tacked to their fence.

The BIGGEST problem is easement for a copper cable is not the same as easement for a fibre cable, so if the cable needs to cross someone's property the new cable is not covered by the current easement, this is a law that seriously needs to be changed.

Some Landlords are twits but basically they have to agree:

https://www.tenancy.govt.nz/law-changes/phase-2/installing-fibre-broadband/

Many ISP's don't offer DSL because of the hassles and separate interconnect required.

The ISP I work for does but then there is the justification I live in a rural area and only have VDSL as an option. In my case I am in the township so my connection is rock solid and pretty decent speed wise.

But leaving that aside we have moved several clients to UFB and generally don't offer DSL if UFB is an option.

Exactly and that's what we did. No point punishing someone who can't convince their landlord to get UFB installed, have to push them somewhere else but that's only a bandaid. Moving from one FWA product to another is only either buying more time or falling into a congested trap.

At some stage they will have to come to terms with it and take action including forcing the matter via the Tenancy Tribunal, or moving to wireless or Starlink.

xDSL is not an attractive proposition for any ISP. It requires additional services from Chorus which have to be paid for to service a diminishing percentage of the client base. Its also harder to test and has a higher rate of client issues.

Right now ISP's who have previously offered it are sticking with it because outside the towns and cities large swathes are green (ADSL) and yellow (VDSL) on the coverage map. But as soon as that falls enough (hopefully sooner then later) I believe it will start being dropped as a product.
