magu: I have Orcon ADSL2+ at home and Telstra's VDSL service in the office. For the same amount of money, Telstra's service is faster AND not shaped.

So saying that $120 a month doesn't cover for the costs, I beg to differ. I do not want 10Mbit/s at home. Just the same amount of service that was provided before the new traffic shaping equipment was put in. It made me much happier then.

I am proud to be with Orcon for their openness with their practices, but I don't like being throttled that badly.

I agree with you I also pay $120 a month and pay for every Gb used, I should be able to use my data for whatever I like. Btw I don't think anyone can get VDSL at a private address yet

Here's the latest version of Ubuntu being downloaded over HTTP:

and here's the same file being downloaded over BitTorrent:

I have no problem with traffic shaping it it must come to that, but this amount of shaping is disgusting.

Worse still, I asked Duncan Blair (@Orcon on Twitter) about it a few days ago and he seemed to know nothing about it. Ultimate transparency.

I'm in complete agreement, I was very happy with my Orcon connection until I noticed this shaping a few days ago.

kerrin: Based on my experiance, XNET are a great example of what happens when you don't prioritise traffic.

Xnet are a great example of what happens when you don't upgrade capacity to support increased demand.
