Dota2 has heavy interp so yes that extra latency feels ‘heavy’ for a lack of a better description.

Agreed on the fact that pretty much no provider here cares about latency unless it’s excessive like 200ms+ to sydney.

There is a reason stuff like ExitLag etc. are still in business, aside from US providers being terrible.

Switching provider is relatively painless on fibre, so if you sign up without a term period you can always change if it does jump again.

Thanks for the input everyone :)

@MaxineN, I also dont think you're being mean, just realistic. That reasoning (i.e. an ISP being 'comparatively good' the one week/month/year and then crap the next) is part of my consideration and which is why I am hesitant to just switch at a whim - which I am not. Merely exploring options for now as I like knowing what my options are.

For now, I will see if I can massage the issue with 2Degrees, but I seriously doubt they will care about lil ol' me having a mere 40ms more ping in a single game I am stubbornly playing internationally instead of just settling for a more local server.

Again, thanks for the insights.

It's a shame 2degrees turned off Vocus bandwidth in late October/November last year. It appears Vocus' Australia Singapore Cable (ASC) is still operational so is probably what Mercury are using.

Here's a quote from Mercury network engineer confirming they have dual paths to Singapore via Perth.

Mercury have paths to Sydney via all three Trans-Tasman cables (TGA, SX, and Hawaiki) terminating in PoPs located in Equinix3/4, and Global Switch.  From Sydney, there are dedicated links to Singapore across two cable systems (ASC, and Indigo) terminating in a PoP at Equinix SG1.

Forgot to give an update here. Pretty sure it happened over this past weekend or maybe this past week. Anyway, pings are back to "normal" 118ms. (i've uninstalled exitlag just to make sure no background services etc).

And tracert also reports it to be in the 118ms region. As everyone predicted, I was making a bit of a dramatic impulsive change on something that can very easily fluctuate. Hoping it stays this way for the a while.
