My daughter has a Spacetalk adventurer 2 watch. Online it indicates it's 4g with VoLTE.

Last few days calling has stopped but SMS still work. It's prepay but plenty of credit etc.
I had the problem initially on an iPhone SE 2 but once I turned VoLTE on calls worked.
It has left me wondering on VoLTE compatibility, possible back end provisioning (unlikely if iPhone works).
The device is pretty simple so hard to see where there is a setting I might have missed.
any thoughts or help appreciated.

Lack of the Specific Carrier VoLTE profile in the phone interestingly it may have half of it as SMS still works.

It gets quite specific as some "LTE" devices might support data on one frequency but not voice, and so depending on what tower you're connected to your experience may be curtailed.

Did you find anything on this, I just went to 2degrees and they said the sim is all good, but could be VoLTE.

Just cause a device supports VoLTE does not mean it is going to work

You have different profiles required for VoLTE and there is more than one standard of VoLTE

I'd contemplated this and the next post it just might not work. I'm in Wellington spark starts in March and one by end of year, or vice versa.

is there a specific setting or profile I should be querying with the manufacturer to assess compatibility with 2degrees?

@SNicolle SparkNZ or OneNZ by the end of year?? SparkNZ & OneNZ are end of March 2026 so next month

The manufacturer or 2degrees are not going to support the device to get it working on any NZ carrier

I've emailed the manufacturer but slow going so far.
if it doesn't work w VoLTE then it'll be off to the retailed to be returned.

Here’s the snippet from the Spacetalk website.

apparently after March 2024, watches sold only would work with their own network… but have a look at the text further down which shows you the models and compatibility with the cellular bands…

While the watch can work in certain overseas countries, it does require that the network is WCDMA 3G 2100Mhz and 850Mhz. Unfortunately, USA and Canada do not use this type of network, so the watches outside those countries are incompatible. This means that the watch will be unable to obtain a network connection while in these countries. Models designed for US/Mexico markets cannot function in other regions and vice versa, even after unlocking, due to differences in network band configurations.

If your watch is network-unlocked, ensure that the local carrier supports both the required network frequencies and the Spacetalk-compatible SIM.

In some cases, your Spacetalk watch might be locked to a specific SIM provider. Unlocking the watch allows the use of any compatible SIM. Contact Spacetalk support for assistance and note there might be a fee, which varies by device and region.

Adventurer 1 (Model ST2-4G-1) will work on 4G Bands: B1/B3/B5/B7/B8/B20/B28 and 3G Bands: B1/B5/B8. Where GSM networks are still available 2G: 900/1800MHz.

Spacetalk watches are designed to work overseas if compatibility requirements are met. Be sure to check the availability of necessary network frequencies (as provided in model specifications) and prepare early by unlocking your device if needed.

Adventurer 2 (Model ST2-4G-1) will work on 4G Bands: B1/B3/B5/B7/B8/B20/B28 and 3G Bands: B1/B5/B8. Where GSM networks are still available 2G: 900/1800MHz.

Before traveling, always verify that the SIM you plan to use is compatible with the Spacetalk watch and the destination country network. Avoid surprises by checking the availability of required frequency bands and understanding potential roaming or unlocking costs.

One of these, right? I was looking at one for one of my boys but probably won't now:

(listed as "4G", but as always with things like this, buyer beware)

I just returned the watch back to JB Hi-Fi saying it wasn't fit for purpose as I can not use it and got a refund.

Now looking for a replacement watch for my kids, not sure what to get now. Might go back to Pixbee.
