It probably doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize this plan this plan was probably too expensive to run and the heavy download'er crowd aren't worthwhile customers to have.

So the plan gets canned, significant heavy downloader crowd crying ensuses.

Fortunately they (heavy downloader crowd) can all move (back) to xnet or slingshot (it's good to aggregate all the non viable customers together in order to slow down their speed and turn them into sort-of-viable - I guess?)

Performance on Snap increases to Telecom/Telstra/MaxNet levels.

Everyone wins?

Disclaimer:  "everyone" excludes heavey downloaders with unrealistic expecations.

As some people in this thread have discussed, Night Owl wasn't a profitable plan; truth be told it didn't even come close to breaking even. A few months after releasing the plan we saw what negative effects it would have on our network and stopped offering it to new customers. Instead of an instant withdrawal of the plan or slamming the breaks on the speeds we delivered we decided we would wear the costs for the remainder of the 12 month term. In an effort to provide premium services to the remainder of our customer base a decision was made to free up a significant portion of our bandwidth.

12 months has expired since our Night Owl customers were taken on board so there will be no disconnection fees if customers wish to cancel their accounts as a result of us removing this plan; Also, there should be no reconnection fees to other providers as Night Owl was based on the POTS+UBS platform (however some providers may choose to charge you an administration fee).

I would dearly like to keep everyone happy; however people expecting to use 100GB+ per month for $39.95 may need to lower their expectations a little.

Cheers,

Ralph

thanks for the explanation , id hate to see Snap go the way of Xnet or even Slingshot in taking money and not providing the service they advertise

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Masochists?

People who pretty much just browse (Slingshot is far from bad for browsing and medium-sized images / emailing)

Plans like this make no money for the companies, get over it, most ISP's are having to put up the prices now.

I guess it depends where you are. We get around 17Mbit to Snap and > 10Mbit to the USA. It's pretty consistent except for a few odd slow downs.
