It wouldn't take much for me to switch, although with my limited mobile usage I'm not exactly an ideal customer. I'd be looking for things like (sort of order)

prepay or < $5/month on account

boring old 900MHz GSM for device selection and battery life

customer service, my preference being via email/online

prices similar to or less than Vodafone's old Motormouth prepay, def no more than 20c/text not so worried about calls

Easy access to an itemised bill online, bonus points for simple HTTP(S) GETable CSV or XML download

Extra bonus points for coverage at Lake Tekapo motor camp and main bay (perhaps some little pico cells or something). Vodafone coverage stops dead 100m away

Lots of geek points if you can easily setup your own personal short call codes that dial a SIP URI and are charged at hardly NZ mobile like rates

Data with reasonable charges (eg vodafones $1/day) and either data packs or really cheap right from the first byte

At least Some 3G, 2100MHz is what my current 3G devices are capable of

International roaming (calls,txt and data) with non-crazy charges, at the very least with Aussie

I guess if I ever started really using my mobile for contacting people then TXT packs and/or bestmate like addons would be of interest

Basically as long as they aren't worse than Vodafone I'd seriously consider switching, esp with easy access to an itemised bill.

Biggies for me would be:

Cheaper mobile-landline calls since interconnect is much cheaper, 15c-20c would be ideal
Cheaper mobile calls, about 30c-40c per min
Cheap SMS, a better "everyday rate" of say 6-10c would be nice rather than having to buy masses at $10-$20.
Cheap data plan offering about 100MB a month for approx $10 with further megabytes charged at 10c. (equating to $10 each further 100MB used)

Good voice quality, i'm less than impressed with current mobile networks.

Just a simple everyday mobile plan that I can use and know what i'm paying, whatever the time and get variable bills for my variable usage.

I would also change very quickly if they came out with something like that hope they are watching

How much do you expect (or want) to pay for voice calls?

You can sign up with Compass Mobile now and pay 25c per minute 24/7 to any network which makes it the cheapest mobile offering in NZ.

No matter what 2degrees do I simply doubt they'll be able to beat that. Unlike Compass who are simply reselling their MVNO airtime 2degrees have an entire network that needs a ROI.

Umm... I would expect 2D to be around this actually, possibly around 20-25c/min off-net.

I dont see the need for text cheaper than what's being offered, and I wouldn't think they'd want to attract anyone who plans on spending $5 a month... It'd be nice if they offered something like telecom's old $10 text where you get 500 texts, but then continue charging 2c a text after that. Flat-rate landline/on-net calls would be nice..

Am I hanging out for Two Degrees? HELL YEAH! I've been waiting since 2002. With the exception of $10 texting and Best Mates, prepay calls have dropped by a whopping 10% since 1999. You could buy a prepay VF cellphone that came with an any time, any network sim that charged $1 a minute. Now the cost have dropped to 90c/min. If it wasn't for Best Mates, I'd change on the day they released the sims. But this brings up an important question: where are they going to do the paperwork for porting? My guess is Post shops.

DSE are not too bad, give them a second chance.

I do like the compass deal, only thing is that they charge a $20 per month access charge in order to get the $0.25c calling. Bear in mind though at those prices, the cost-benefits of the cheaper calls would soon swallow the "extra" $20 charge, even at 60 or so "anytime" minutes on something like CDMA Flexi plans or just a few of the "overage" minutes on Vodafone's you-choose plans.

I'm hoping 2Deg will have some low rates that may not be quite as cheap as 25c but would certainly make me use my phone for calling much more.

I also like the 20c per MB data rate, not having to buy a pre-allocated pack especially for low use really appeals.
