2100Mhz

From Scott's blog:

"...2degrees have selected Huawei as their technology partner, and they have (in some fields) equipment superior to that currently offered by the current big players such as Nokia and Ericsson."

That's a bit subjective isn't it? Wink

Are they using 900MHz GSM for 2G as well? I.e. like Vodafone.

Nice!!

I'm sure all the saturated fat in the bucket will really stuff up the signal.

By the way, 2deg will be 900MHz for 2G(GSM). But all the cabinets I have been involved with have had the antennaline equipped for 1800MHz GSM, just requiring the cards (and probably the licence).

So it wasn't Telecom after all causing the interference. Wonder how many $$ were paid out by KFC to cover this one up :)

scottjpalmer: So they aren't targeting mobile data, big deal. It has been widely rumoured they are after the bread and butter voice calling market. Their presentation made it very clear NZers TXT so much because voice costs so much, their plan is to change that.

Fully agree, data is all good but the masses want voice and text!

Agreed - It'll be nice to have another independent player in the market, hopefully it'll mean good things for all of us, fingers crossed.

Surely data uptake is also poor for the same reason though? How about changing that? ;)

scottjpalmer: One point to note, at launch in August the network will be 2G everywhere (97% of where we live work play blah blah) with selected 3G sites in the 3 main cities. By January 2010ish the 97% cover will be 3G . . .

It was my understanding that 2degree's roaming agreement with Vodafone included their 3G network as well. If that is the case then 2degree would have 97% 3G coverage from day one -- i.e. 2degree 3G at 2100MHz in the main cities, handing over to Vodafone 3G 900MHz or 2100MHz when out of 2degree coverage. A 900MHz capable phone would be required but it could be done.

Or is my (admittedly limited) understanding of the roaming agreement with Vodafone incorrect?

From what they told us it is as I have posted above - 2G from day 1 until January when 2degrees will go 3G "everywhere"
