For anyone who wants to see it before installing:

I'd like to see some thousands separators (ie 41,595.7 MB).  For someone like me with a huge cap having commas helps split the number up.

Other than that, great work!  Snap would be mad not to offer this as an official download.

rscole86: Very cool! Any change in colour as your usage changes?

Thanks. Yea it goes orange at +80% and red at +90%.

A couple of other things I should have noted:

 - Password is stored encrypted and transmitted securely
 - It does do a simple built-in "new version available" check. The app will check for a new version when you open the "About..." dialog. If there is a new version available a link will be visible.

raydenl: As promised:

http://rapidshare.com/files/242494723/snap.zip.html

It requires the .NET2.0 framework.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi raydenl:

Is there any other way you can host the file?  I tried accessing the Rapidshare link and got an error that says it can only be downloaded 10 times and the limit is reached.

I'd be very interested to try this out, if you can point me to another place where I can download the file.

Thanks.

There's already a very good usage meter available from http://tuc.swaziboy.com/. It's free. Check it out.

As discussed with Raydenl via PM; Snap will not officially support an executable that requires a cutomers username/password. That being said, I will work with Raydenl to develop something we can support :)

If someone has the file, please send me a PM and I'll get it hosted locally.

AFAIK it does not suppot Snap.

I checked out the TUC webpage and forums a week ago and snap was not mentioned... Admittedly I did not download it and actually try it.

Hmmm, didn't realise Rapidshare now had such a short limit on number of downloads

Ralph should have it hosted soon

edit:
Ralph and the nice people at Snap are now hosting the file for me, it can be found here:

Did anyone else find it disturbing how many people were willing to run a relatively unknown exe posted on the forums without seeing the source or putting in any effort to verify it was legit.

Lets say Raydenl wasn't a nice guy you could all be running the latest zombie rootkit right now.

I guess I'm more paranoid than the average bear, so with that said it looks like a useful tool for Snap users!

I'm sure you can generate a unique id/GUID for each customer that they could use instead Cool C'mon Ralph, free program that shows usage!!

I tend to agree although I guess that's fairly standard for closed source software users. If anyone wants a really basic PyGTK widget type thing I have one that I use, it's only 40 lines.

Bug:

2009-06-13 13:02:27,750 [5] ERROR SnapUsageMonitor.Main [(null)] - Data plan total GB is equal to zero or invalid.
System.Exception: Data plan total GB is equal to zero or invalid.
at SnapUsageMonitor.Main.Update(Object state)

this is valid for one of our clients :)

edit: I should add - yes, this means that the tool loses much of its purpose, but it's still great for just keeping an eye on usage easily. Perhaps add a box to 'override' the cap value? (or maybe even just in .config - not actually configured in the app).

.... Can I get a copy of the source code? :)

hmmm, when would the data plan total be equal to zero??? surely all plans would have a data cap?

For users still on Night Owl the plan will show a 0MB cap. These plans will be expiring soon so it won't be a problem for much longer.
