Some areas in East Auckland are pretty hilly... I got national roaming in the inner steeper sides of Mellons Bay:

Otherwise, I have got to say, 2degrees have done a wonderful job of providing good 2G coverage around our area. The area around Macleans College used to have very marginal Vodafone 2G coverage (good 2100 3G coverage though)... now there's full 2G coverage thanks to 2degrees installing a tower right outside the school (not that I use a phone at school :D)

So did we work out why these Nokias say "Vodafone NZ"??

We have an IMPORTED Nokia that does that too.

Because it's roaming nationally on "vodafone NZ".

Nothing to do especially with Nokia phones. I'm at home now and it's showing "2degrees", "Highland Park".

You might want to check out the coverage there and also scan the network, maybe manually pick NZ-24/530-24/2degrees.

But isn't Mellons Bay in Auckland?

There is no roaming for 2 Degrees customers in Auckland/Wellington/Christchurch/Queenstown.

There is now :)

Yes, Mellons Bay actually isn't far from where I live, which is in Auckland.

I always get full 3G on Vodafone at Bucklands Beach, are you down more towards Eastern Beach?

I get VF 2g drop in/out between Howick and Music Pt. Typically outside Mcleans, then down the hill to the beaches then around BB Primary School on Clovely Rd.
3G is so flakey that I never bother - ok up at Howick shops though.

Yeah, I reckon it is all the hills, hard to get signal in there.

I just spoke to 2Degrees,

It will be getting coverage spilled from the islands around Mellons Bay.
