coffeebaron: I don't like people writing numbers like
0220 123 456
or the worst is
0274 123 456
should be like:
027 412 3456 etc. Its also a pain when people quote numbers that way too.

I agree. What inspired "0274" in the first place?

Typically 0274 range was reserved by Telecom for users upgrading from 6 digit 025 numbers.

0272 was typically dished out for new connections, 0275 typically reserved for 'winbacks' from 021/029, and when introduced, 0273 was typically doled out to pre-provisioned prepaid handsets, and 0276 was typically given to data only devices and some prepaid handsets.

Some of these ranges and those reasons were 'business rules' at one time or another, but were often broken, and I believe all of those ranges eventually became a free-for-all as the 025 closedown became a distant memory, and the rules around 0275 were a little more relaxed.

Interesting. On a semi-related note, I walked past a parked van today with the company name and contact details, including 025 number...
