old3eyes: I don't see that as a good reason for no auto time update as Telecom does it at no extra cost to the customer..

/Shrug.

I expect BB's right though; it's a cost to the carrier in license fees, but generates no revenue. So unless the licenses are very cheap, it simply doesn't make business sense to do it.

Wierd, try resetting your phone, I swapped mine out yesterday and it picked up the update within 20 seconds of turning on my phone :)

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

BBJones: At the risk of answering a VF question in this forum...I understand the reason they don't do it is a) the only one time zone thing mentioned above and b) it costs 100's of thousands to license that functionality on their network.

My source also thought that the licensing for network features has to get re-purchased for every upgrade...*ouch* No wonder the other operators use Huawei networks.

Don't know about you, but I don't want to pay for that functionality and the customer always ends up with the bill no matter how you dress it up.

Astonishing! They know the date and time the calls are made (or they wouldnt know how to bill you), but they cant (afford to) send a time signal out on their network......

still works on 2 degrees. Do you have the service enabled on your phone>
Try powering off - usually syncs with cellsite when powering on.

Are you in 2degrees (own cellsite) coverage? I.E. Ak, Well, CC?

Yes, of course - in CHCH.
Don't imagine it would work on Voda roaming coverage as Voda cellsites do not have it enabled.

Telecom most certainly does not use Huawei products (not that there is anything wrong with them), only 2D use Huawei as a network infrastructure provider AFAIK.

i know this is regarding 2deg, but one prob i found with the time auto on an XT phone was it took a day and half for the time to change (DST), nothing we did sorted it.

No problems here changing to DST. Did you power cycle your device (or have it switched off when the change occurred?)

FWIW, a number of major power generators use Telecom's mobile network for synchronisation. Telecom cellsites receive and broadcast GPS time which is within a few dozen nanoseconds of coordinated universal time.

@nzbnw yes, we turned it off for at least an hour a couple of times, my XT phone was fine, wifes was problem.

No problems here either (XT), mine happened exactly at 2 and I didn't even cycle my phone...

Many CDMA networks around the world are used for this functionality, since it's inherent in CDMA.

I'm surprised that Vodafone don't have this enabled though - my phones have always set/reset the time correctly when arriving in NZ or being defaulted, since about 2006. What are they doing if it's not coming from the network?
