We live 3 doors down from a massive Telecom tower (IE the type where there is a mini walkway on the top of the tower) and I have yet to grow a tumour. TBH its probably safer to have a tower closer with better coverage as your phone will be putting less radiation into your head when your using it. The stupidest thing is that I'm on Vodafone and the coverage sucks!
Anyway its not the tower that has caused problems in our neighborhood bu Telecom's retarded nature. They have a big plot of land with their exchange and tower which looks crap on the street. So the community got together for a Saturday working bee and we planted trees down the edge of Telecom's property about 15m away from their building to make it look nicer (the community even paid for the trees). Anyway on Monday Telecom contractors came and ripped up the trees and dumped them on one of our doorsteps. For what purpose I have no idea but FFS they don't make themselves look good...
Did you check for cables etc that the trees would grow into when they got older? Trees are one of the most problematic things for underground services, and if its an exchange there will be heaps of them connecting into the building.
IMO going onto their property planting trees without consultation is pretty naieve. I would be pushing for removal costs if someone was to plant trees down the edge of my property on my side.

The little person suffers once again, my parents house value has just plummeted with outdoor living area dominated with mini sky tower, not to mention associated health risks, Yes, potential buyers see health risks. Yes it could easily happen to you... no notification received from the council or 2 degrees by any residents in the immediate vacinity (Torbay), the tower is up where are screwed... Is this the Facist strategy of 2 degrees, we have no rights, it is compliant.. yet it affects the community, the property owner on which it is installed I asume would receive payment yet we have to live with it.

I'd be interested to see the re-valuation that you have had done on your parents house since yesterday's tower installation.
I suspect that the value has not in fact plumeted but more that your perception of the idealic suburbian outdoor living has just been eroded. I compare it to the first time you dent your new car. All of a sudden it's not so special. You experiance anger, denial, sadness then finally acceptance. It is a natural process.
I also suspect that you did have the opportunity to have input with your local council regarding the tower, just as Mr Hegley has, but the opportunity was missed. Stuff happens in my community that I miss too - and all of a sudden there is a new McDonalds on the corner (which I abhor).
Words like Health Risk, Facist,mini Sky Tower, Pawns and POWER seem a tad extreme don't you think. But you are still in the anger phase of this life experience. This will work out all good, you'll see.

Honestly - if you looked at the way the section was laid out (its quite big) there wasn't a risk of this happening. Their section is ridiculously large (ie you could probably fit 4 or 5 houses on just one side). Where we planted the trees was next to a group of houses that was on one side of the section and far away from their building/tower. There wouldn't be any cables running there unless they ran accross those properties which none of the residents knew of and the fact is those houses back onto about 100acres of grasslands - its just common sense.
We had been trying to get an answer from Telecom for ages but they have a seperate contracting company I guess who wanted the work. Telecom were happy but its just the beuracracy of their "management services". After ripping out the trees, 2 months later the contracting company planted their own in the holes.... Go figure....
richms: I would be fine with it so long as the bulky part wasn't in the direct view from the windows - unfortunately they are all too damn short to do that.
Guess people were complaining about power transformers up the poles in the old days of power reticulation.
And how about those offensive green ones at the side of the road - you can even hear them humming when you walk past!
And god forbid a street light - the things are tall and spill unwanted electromagnetic radiation into your property. Lets ban them too!!

They contain RADIOACTIVE isotopes that emit beta radiation. I don't see any one trying to ban those.

I'm wondering why there is not more pole sharing. Seeing all parties agreed to it.
Yes, yes, yes - "how would you feel", "what if the wind changes in your direction" etc etc.
The fact is that we live in a mobile, want it now, do it anywhere society and that will only strengthen. Mobile phones will not be the only cell based devices in the near future. Health devices such as heart monitors that transmit data back to your physician, mobile eftpos, pet tracking etc etc are all on the cards and will require a robust cell network.
The thing is - the cell towers must go somewhere. Sure, you may not like the look of them or where they are but this tech is hear to stay and most people want it.
If you are complaining about all the towers in your nabourhood alot of people that live in built up areas have transmitters right outside their window, they are mounted on anything from walls to polls on roofs and unless you are looking can hardly notice they are there. Maybe you can help fund research into people living in these areas and get some firm results. Next people will be complaining about your office having a transmitter right outside your window or your internet cafe is running wifi and I want it turned off while I go in for a coffee.
Agreeded they can be unsightly, my answer to that is paint them and discuise them like trees etc.

Fact not extreme. Fact no notification of installation given, no opportunity given to contact council before installation, no contact from council at all. Fact devaluation of property, amount of potential buyers decreased. Fact is these towers are popping up like acne breakouts. Fact is no one is immune, unless of course you have imput on their location. Fact is our rights have been negated.
kaygirl can you post a picture of the tower, preferably showing the view that is obstructed/ruined? Mainly because the towers that I have seen in residential areas have been fairly unobtrusive and no, I wouldn't mind if it was 50m from my house. But then again maybe you have a different kind of tower.
