I know that a crapload of iphone users have moved to XT just because of the GSM fallback being a problem with using vodafone with no handset option to solve it like nokias etc have.

And they are pretty much all stoked at it.

In saying that my sister moved from an old $19.95 vodafone plan to 2degrees because the monthly magic top up will see her using about half the amount or less at the current usage of the phone, which will probably go up since its now affordable to use.

Mum has moved because she was angry at vodafone being useless on the phone and it means that its cheaper for my sister and me to call her with the majic top up.

I know a couple of people that have moved their spare phones to 2 degrees to just get the bonus credit etc out of them.

I would say that 100000 is a gross underestimation after thinking about it.

I agree. It wouldn't surprise me if they had at least 150,000 customers by now. Until the CEO releases the numbers one can only speculate.

When you do the statistics it works out roughly that 1 in 45 kiwis are on 2 degrees which seems fairly believeable

So, if we have 110% market pentration for mobiles (as per NBR Article) with 4.3 Million people, then thats 189,200 customers, which explains the 2 Degree's CEO saying that Analyst's had under estimated by saying 100,000 customers.

What their Average Revenue Per Subscriber value is, is a entirely different matter, hopefully it's more than $2. :)

So the total's so far

Telecom   2,250,000
Vodafone  2,511,000
2Degrees  189,200

Off to the races we go, not a bad start for 2 Degree's, and Telecom 261k behind Vodafone.

Those better at math than me please check my figures :-)

Nonsense. The article says 65900 + however many people kept thier original allocated 2degrees number and didn't change it. I know a lot of people in that category...

EDIT: obviously a timing issue and the article has been edited...

Hmm, the article's been edited. It did say something to the effect of "a spokeswoman said the above two categories did not account for every section of 2degrees' customer base, but she could not name a further category. In all of NBR's imagination, we cannot think of another category either".

The article has now been updated with a third category of people that didn't change their "random" 022 number, when in the earlier version that category seemed to be included in the 23400.

These comments are my own and do not represent the opinions of 2degrees.

Tricky? A SIM card? It's obviously not 2degrees fault if the phones you use are "complicated".

If you have a Vodafone SIM card on any handset then Vodafone is the one charging you. It doesn't matter if it's a Telecom handset, or an imported handset. Telecom has nothing to do with your Vodafone SIM card - not even if you use their handsets.
