Yea 5.2Mbits sounds about right. 8mbit minus IP overheads etc will be around 5 or 6mbit.

It will rocket when you get your ADSL2+ modem sorted!

Athlonite: and the sync rate has gone from 2.2~2.7Mbps to 14.7Mbps which even though faster would seem a little low only being 300mtr from the cabinet it twould seem one needs to be right on top of it to get nearer 20Mbps here's the NetComm NB5Plus4 stats

Hey,

My flat is with Orcon, been on our Orcon+ plan for about 5 months now.
It sucks. We live in Greenlane and our DS Line Attenuation is atleast 50 sometimes late 50's due to our connection having to come from the exchange in Remuera.

For some reason when I questioned the Orcon customer service team about why we couldn't be on a cabinet they said it was because of our + plan and wouldn't speed up our internet that much.

We have a road side cabinet in Greenlane, is what Orcon said a load of BS?

EDIT, I also think we are naked DSL. That might've been the reason.

If you throw your address into www.telecomwholesale.co.nz/maps does it says it connected to a cabinet?

What they told you is correct. Until Orcon and others come to some agreement with Telecom and co-hosting in cabinets, LLU customers will still be fed from Orcon's gear in the local exchange..

Hi, as old3eyes says you have been told the truth by Orcon, you would be better to move to a Telecom wholesale connection (ie an Orcon non + plan) and you should get better performance. Remurea exchange has around 11 cabinets on the Greenlane side of the motorway, and they are all in service (since mid last year) so if you move to a cabinet your attenuation should fall to under 15dB and you speeds jump significantly.

We actually automatically move customers from Orcon+ to Orcon, when we can, once they are installed on a cabinet.

However since he is on a naked plan on LLU, we can't offer that on a Wholesale plan. Which is why he hasn't been moved.

edaw: If you ask to change to a current Orcon account, you will be moved to the cabinet.

Finally spoke to Orcon, kind of annoyed.
Sent an email a week and a half ago but got no reply so rang up this morning.

Apparently there is nothing they can do to get my account cabinetised.
My flat is in Greenlane and near a cabinet but we can't use it and have to use the Remuera exchange.
Apparently it's a Telecom wholesale issue.

Even if the possibiltly to downgrade to a non + plan were available I don't think we would.
Anyone think of any other ISPs to use? Might just have to Telecom it.

I went from LLU with Orcon back to UBS with no problems now being fed from cabinet..

Just rang a few ISPs, looks like Telecom is the only one that'll connect to my local cabinet.
My street is Adam Street, Greenlane.
So annoying.
