My point was there is nothing stopping them now. Even with current MTR rates for SMS the fact most SMS messages end up getting a response from the other party means in effect a TXT conversation can effectively be zero rated now.

Really? So nice of VF to carry all that (national roaming) text traffic for free...

Free since when?

Exactly.

If I remember correctly 2, maybe 3, years ago it got to within about a month of the end date of one $10 Text campaign before they announced a continuation. This time I seriously doubt there will be a continuation - forcing people to move to XT means lots of sales of shiney new phones... good for the old bottom line.

Their target market for $10 text will not be getting shiney new phones, they will get shyte new phones that have an R in the model name and are total pieces of junk.

ROTFLMAO - too true!

And naggyman is right - Sales are sales... each one that Telecom converts is one less they've lost to a competitor.

Get em while they are young... Still $10/mo is not a lot to capitalise on. 2D have a good strategy, attract profitable customers. I spend about $60/mo which is not bad.

Sorry I gotta pull you up on that nonsense. Attract profitable customers? How? By bleeding people for data and calls, so you can txt cheap?

2D scrapes the bottom of the barrel in terms of customer ARPU, because any smart person using a volume of calls and data would see that XT or VFNZ is a way better option. Their strategy is to target the absolute lowest point of the market, and play on emotions, without thought. Regulate the entire cellular industry so you can get $10TXT?

What do you get for you $60 a month may I ask?

Telecom's $10 text is about to end in 2 months, I am not sure about Boost. But on 31st march 2gedrees has a HUGE opportunity. Let's hope the ComCom get the regulation sorted out sooner than October.

There's nothing stopping 2degrees launching a $10 plan now.

Yes there is (1) Mobile termination rates. and roaming rates when  2D customers are roaming on Vfones network.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Cool so they can build their own then.

Give them a chance they only launched last August. Have you ever heard of the "Resource Management Act".
To roll out a 2G/3G cellphone network nationwide (depending on the frequencies being used) you are looking at a minimum of $800million.

Would guess 2degrees would build out urban areas first and continue to use vodafone for rural coverage.

I thought the recent changes meant they could drop a site on any existing structure without the RMA getting in the way of progress?

From what I can tell: MikeyPI  - Has NO concept of reality. Sure, they can build their own, they are trying, but due to NZ's landscape/lack of population its hard to build a case to borrow 1B for a network. And they do have a great strategy, they are not trying to be loss leaders, actually I highly doubt they would loose any money from ANY customer. Whereas the $10 text plans are loss leaders. Most of the children who only spend $10 a month aren't worth it.

2D is new, anyway by October texting will be 1-3c and calling will be cheaper too.

Do you read the articles?
It took them more than 6 months to get the concent. It is up to the individual councils to grant access. They had meeting after meeting about the tower. For example; in Wellington they have had meeting after meeting about a silly tower in the Hutt, it has taken over 12 months and I have given up wondering if it was ever built.
