Telecom's $10 text is about to end in 2 months, I am not sure about Boost. But on 31st march 2gedrees has a HUGE opportunity. Let's hope the ComCom get the regulation sorted out sooner than October.

Where is the huge opportunity here? Telecom offer a non-stop text addon for their XT network, so I am not sure where 2 dgrees will benefit when $10 text finishes.

They have the opportunity to steal customers off Telecom. They just need a txt plan that competes with Telecom & Vodafone.

I guess Telecom are using the dropping of $10 Texts to encourage people to get off CDMA and onto the XT Network. Does that mean that XT will crash less often?

$10 text on CDMA has always had an end date (at least for the past several years), Telecom just extended the deal each time it got close to that date. Have they said that it will in fact be ending on Mar 31 and not be extended again?

There's nothing stopping 2degrees launching a $10 plan now.

I highly doubt it will... It never gets this close and cdma is old, they want people on XT.

I highly doubt it will... It never gets this close and cdma is old, they want people on XT.

If I remember correctly 2, maybe 3, years ago it got to within about a month of the end date of one $10 Text campaign before they announced a continuation. This time I seriously doubt there will be a continuation - forcing people to move to XT means lots of sales of shiney new phones... good for the old bottom line.

My point was there is nothing stopping them now. Even with current MTR rates for SMS the fact most SMS messages end up getting a response from the other party means in effect a TXT conversation can effectively be zero rated now.

My point was not that traffic is free, but in effect it's free.

If a Telecom customer sends a SMS to a VF customer Telecom pay VF $

If a VF customer then sends a SMS reply to a Telecom customer VF pay Telecom $

Since most SMS messages get a response and many conversations end up with an even number of messages in the conversation their is no net gain to either carrier.

I think n4's point was that every time a 2degrees subscriber roaming on Vodafone receives a message - from anyone - 2degrees pays Vodafone. So no, even if the traffic is roughly even, it doesn't work out even close to free.
