Thanks

A speedtest on www.speedtest.net... to the Auckland site shows you getting good speeds?

Ping 73ms
DL: 1.85Mbit
UL: 0.87Mbit

Not exactly what I would call good.

Are you connected on Orcon+ or Orcon?

If you throw your address into www.telecomwholesale.co.nz/map... what does it say you are connected to?

I assume you are directly plugged into the modem rather than Wireless.

Hi Sounddude, just letting you know I made an error on those traces, they do show a decent ping to local stuff, all though at the time the sites them selves were very slow all round.

Now, the good news is, every thing has been great tonight, all games were fine a ping of 60ish to aus with very good jitter less than 2ms most of the time. Also you tube and pretty much every thing was good, could even get line speed from apple.

I just need to get interleaving switched off again, it makes a huge difference to games.

Hopefully it will stay like this.

Cheers :)

Thanks nzkiwiman, I will do some digging for you.

It sounds like congestion from the exchange or errors on your line causing the slowness.

Have you logged a fault with the helpdesk yet? Do you have a ticket number? Do you have interleaving turned off or on?

I haven't bothered with the helpdesk. I'm still waiting for a reply to my support incident from Aug 2009 when I changed plans and it all went pear shapped (see thread: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/foru...)

Its like Orcon knew that the You Tube promotion would use a lot of bandwith and so opened up a 20 lane super-highway onto the internet and as soon as the promotion was over, closed 16 of those lanes and 2 have rush hour traffic on them from 5pm till 12am (ish)

Just had to download the new update to VLC - it automatically selected the CacheBoy, New-Zealand mirror

Currently coming down at 37kb/sec
I have downloaded from this mirror at 430kb/sec in the past, during peak times.

EDIT: I now have a ticket number: #YIX-189799
Can't beleive it took 2 hours to send a form email though.

Definatly a peak time issue, so as I already know - its an Orcon issue and nothing on my end.
The file to test the line speed at 8.40pm (http://www.orcon.net.nz/downlo...) came down at 87kb/sec while the same file at 4.40am came down at 830kb/sec.

I know there is a thread on this forum were the peak time speed was perfect after Sounddude fixed something, but that only lasted for a week

So, how long do I wait for a reply to my speedtests?
A couple of days (today), a week, two?
