It's a hangover from when we were smaller. To reduce risk, we only acquired customers that had existing landlines.

To have an existing landline, you would have been credit checked by Telecom. Therefore reducing risk.

The other side of it was that credit checking was expensive and difficult to automate back then.

We now do credit check, and it is automated for our products. Just need to sort out lighting up brand new connections.

In terms of why, we simply haven't got round to it yet. It is on the list, I agree it makes no sense in this day and age.

I hope it's near the top of that list, because I would have been with you guys now if it wasn't for this issue.

Thank you for giving a response, I had emailed customer support a while ago asking the exact same question and there answer was terrible - they pretty much just said "we do it because that's how we do it".
