Sounddude: Line looks normal to me, was it only last night you experienced the issue?
uktuatara: Looks okay to me, sites that are a further distance away are impacted by latency. Did you hear anything more from Orcon? Maybe they can indicate whether there was specific outage that affected you for the evening?
Sounddude: If you are getting 11mbit to Auckland and 5mbit to London, I would say that is pretty standard.
London is quite far away from NZ internet wise, as all traffic goes to LA first and then via 2 or 3 other carriers.
The high latency will also cause the speed decrease.
As for last nights issue you had, would be interested to see if the same happens tonight. We have little say in how the UBA network runs, however I can ensure you the Orcon core and national/international links were running as expected last night.
brookz:
World of Warcraft has becaome unplayabe again during peak hours. Using a tunnel to play doesn't change anything either.
Web browsing is also really choppy.
Sounddude: Line looks normal to me, was it only last night you experienced the issue?
uktuatara: My conclusion is as follows (opinion only) : Orcon has congestion at peak hours
I'm not trying to bag Orcon, they're a greast business, but this is the conclusion I draw form your testing. Why?
1. You get normal performance during the day - so your modem and PC can handle decent throughput
2. Your connection and sync speeds look okay - modem is capable and line is capable
3. local traffic remains at good performance - rules out ISAM congestion
4. International traffic is only affect during set times of the night.
Happy to be proven wrong, but that's what it looks like to me.
Do you know anyone esle int he same area (a neighbour?) who can do the same tests? If they are on a different ISP then you'll be able to at least prove out if it's specific to Orcon.
acenzed: Quote: Anybody else noticed these symptoms and may have a solution?
Yup, i notice the exact same symptoms.
We have WoW - and it's unplyable most of the time, when isay unplayable i mean:
1. Raiding - Any time you have alot going on the data down just stops. (VoA is awfull for example)
2. The latency makes pvp or arena impossible
3. I'll get severed from Blizzards end if i enter the WG keep and a battle is on
4. Any time there are more than ten people on the screen actual latency (like that shown on cast bar mods such as Quartz) sky rocket
5. We use WoWtunnels which pretty much is the only thing allowing me to play the game right now.
Browsing is choppy, the data just pauses, you notice this most while working with webmail or forum posts as it will stop while you are composing and fail when sending/posting.
The annoying thing, the servers i use are in the Emberstorm battlegroup, the speed to the states is just awfull ALL the time. (at best i get 3mbs, however the most common number under 1mbs, often in the 200kbs range)
I might be getting 6mbs to NZ while only having 200kbs to the states - This is not the quality i expect for the monthly bill.
Hervard: Download speeds have been pretty poor the last 3 days, especially international. Even Google is slow :/
Not amused...
