I come from Telecom DSL where I was on a normal plan (aka - non big time). The download speed was always between 10-14 mbps.


I have recently subscribed to Orcon because I want a temporary solution and I don't want to subscribe for an year. I was shocked to see download speeds of 256-512kbps (kilo bits, not bytes). I tested with SCP/FTP/HTTP on multiple servers.


I tried Download Accelerator Plus and with 5 threads the speed goes to 1mbps, maybe 2mbps so it's clearly an Orcon Limit in place.


I know another person on Orcon with identical issues and silly me, I was trying to convince him that in our days, download accelerators are useless. Well, they are, unless you have Orcon as your ISP.


I can't understand why if I pay per GB I don't have maximum speed. Well, I do. Probably because Orcon doesn't pay for enough international bandwidth. And the monthly subscription is bloody expensive, even more expensive than Telecom !


Anybody else noticed these symptoms and may have a solution?
