When I was with telecoms old CDMA network I had a phone that I could NOT set the time myself, the network set the time and it was always spot on. It was good to see 2degrees do the update too.

This would be so simple to setup and just think good pr.... every year I'm having to change it since being with Vodafone.

Freeview is another service that is lacking in that regard.

I agree, Freeview's time is NEVER right with their EPG.

With 2 degrees, turned on auto time update, phone then turned off and then back on by itself, had correct time since. Same phone with vodafone sim select auto time update and up on screen something like "not network supported" Another pleasant suprise I got on 2 Degrees was when phone turned off missed voice call but they didn't leave msg, when turned phone on got text with time of call and number. Someone told me Vodafone does this as well but not telecom. Get it all with 2 Degrees.

I posted a query about this a while back when considering getting a phone on 2 degrees. I was happy to see that 2 degrees DO set the date/time just like Telecom did/do.

I have often heard people around the office who have vodafone phones sound quite surprised when they are told that the other providers can set the date/time automatically for you. They then wonder why Vodafone dont do that and the only answer I can give is that I suppose Vodafone dont care or are too tight to pay for the feature - or they havent read the part of the instruction manual that tells them how to turn it on :-)

One thing to remember is this feature is only available when inside the 2degrees network coverage, it is not available if you're roaming on Vodafone.

My nokia 1100's are now getting the time set on them again. During daylight savings they were not. I am guessing the quite dated and buggy software in them doesnt like the +1300 that comes with NZ being in NZDT.

Mums 2630 (ex slingshot) updated ok on 2 degrees, my 2 slingshot phones on slingshot/vodafone did not even update with the phone changing itself.

Totally lame to not support it IMO.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NITZ It will be something I look for when buying a new phone.

Even my wife's 5-year old Nokia (the model before the 1100) supports NITZ, so you won't have any problem finding a phone that does.

Your handset will only reset the time when you do a location update. Turning off and on causes a location update.

Damager: Telecom, HTC Touch Pro 2. Mine changed automatically and I'm sure that Telecom has always done this? Oh wait.. That was on CDMA. Wonder how mine changed then? In my semi conscious state this morning I did see a message appear on my phone re daylight saving.

So this wasnt Telecom then?

Windows Mobile updated the time
