And it's not really "free" on Virgin either; you need to pay at least $19 each month to get it, and you must have at least 1c balance. In other words, it isn't free, it's $19/mth. And it's also worth noting that mobile calling rates on mere mortal plans were already under 30c/min when I left Aus in 2002. They've had real competition for a lot longer than NZ.

I would pay $30-50/mo for unlimited on-net/landlines calls. Means no more landline!

Would you have issues with the Commerce Commission if they prevented the launch of such a product?

3G is okay, but there are some pretty good wireless networks out there. Heard of Naked DSL?? Telstra Clear, and there is a new provider out there who provide microwave links with a guaranteed speed. I do not mind paying for what I get. If you pay FA EXPECT JS.

I use naked dsl.

With the slingshot phone being so cheap and the $10 credit each month from them with having the naked dsl, I am thinking of dropping my italk plan since it just means that cheap people have a number to call me on which usually means the call is not important.

If it is SIM's I expect Micro SIM's. More likely is 3G and cheaper data but time will tell!!

If Vodafone offered a similar plan here it would be very interesting, and I don't think it would be classed as anti-competitive. I say this because the monthly fee you pay gives you $X to spend on calling off-net. You're paying it anyway and not spending any of it for on-net calling (well, maybe texts but why text when calling is free), so you are not as discouraged from calling your friends on another network.

I hope so, as this (and 3G) is the only thing stopping me and my friends moving to 2Deg. VF's $10 for 100MB is what I use now, and its pretty good for a growing number of users who demand light use of email and social media on their mobile devices.

Something like that or better would be perfect !!!
