Mate - Go have a look at Vodafone's site, look at all the plans they have. Its so hard to find the right one. With 2degrees it's simple. You just add on a new pack. You don't have to go for a smart 20, talk 60 or whatever.
richms: I thought there was no termination for landlines in NZ, so the india/china rates is no different to the crap that vodafone pull with the calling cards etc.

So you are complaining that getting more value is a bad thing? due to mobile termination rates (MTRs) they can't offer that sort of plan to NZ landlines and mobiles. But they are giving you savings were they can with calling card rates without needing to use a calling card to China/HK and India.

Agreed, still way less mind numbing than VF or Telecom
scheduler: I am not sure that the $30.00 talk pack is that good a value unless you make a lot of off net mobile calls. Assuming you top up every 30 days and maintain your top up and get rewards you are going to be paying 22c a minute to landlines and 2 degrees mobiles. leaving off net telecom and vodafone mobiles at 44c a minute.
If you take a difference of 14c a minute you would need to make 215 minutes of off net calling to recoup your $30.00. ie 215*.14=$30.10. As this pack only gives 100 minutes of calling I really can't see what the advantage is unless the Top up and get rewards are going to be axed.
I'm not sure the people at 2degrees have thought it through that much. Are people really going to be prepared to gamble that they'll be using quite close to blocks of 100 minutes each month? I suppose this is aiming at a different market than their previous offerings.

I'm not sure I follow your logic, but if you only made off-net calls, you'd be better off on this pack if you use more than 68 minutes per month. If you make only on-net calls, you'll never be better off.
Basically with this pack, on-net calls cost 8c more and off-net cost 14c less. As long as the ratio of your calls (on/off) is less than 14/8 then the new pricing scheme is better value (i.e. you can make 1.75x as many on-net calls as off-net calls). This is contingent on using the 100 minutes, of course. If you use less than 100 minutes, the calculations change since your effective per minute rate increases (i.e. ratio needs to be less than (0.44m-30)/(30-0.22m) where m is total minutes used per month (on+off)). The closer to 68 minutes calling per month, the higher proportion of off-net calls you need.
I won't be using this pack, but if a lot of your calling is off-net then it's a no-brainer. Otherwise, it's a bit of a gamble based on how many minutes per month you use. If you have roughly equal number of friends on each network (i.e. on/off = 1/2) then you'd need to use at least 82 minutes (i.e. 27 on/55 off) for the pack to be better value.

So if you were really keen you could buy 5 at the same time and then spend 10hrs straght talking to someone in India or China/HK! not sure why you would want to do this though =)
