Connect to the device in hyperterminal and type

AT+CUSD=?

or

AT+CUSD?

To see how its set and if its supported.

For balance check type

AT+CUSD=1,"*100#2#111111111111#",15

And it should respond with something like

+CUSD: 0,"You balance is blah blah.",5

And then also send you a text

its 3G time!

manhinli: Run into the NUL[L] characters when inputting *100#1# - otherwise the executable will fail to launch.

And yes, the tray icons do not come from Main.png - I've tried to do that last year and it failed.

There is a bitmap that starts at 0x4ea818 in the .exe. It's 64x64, 32bpp, essentially a 4x4 grid of the required icons. You can replace this with any bitmap you like. I don't have the skills to design new icons (I assume you want to replace the other ugly ones too?) so I'll leave that part up to you, if you like?

If you have any problems replacing the bitmap, you can send me the new icons (I'd appreciate them anyway, unless you just want to replace the Telecom icon in which case I'm good to go) and I'll insert them into the .exe for you.

Also, I'm not really sure what the three instances of #125# are for. The third one seems to populate the field when you first open in and then after that is sent it replaces it with the first one. I haven't seen the second one appear yet. Anyway, I've just changed them all to *100#1# now.

I suppose one could change one of them to *100#2# so when one opens "My Account", the balance is displayed and then be ready to enter the voucher code to top up.

i tried some experiments (admitedly not with the new 2d sticks but I believe they will be Huawei based ones so should support USSD)

as usual there is more than one way to skin a cat...

1. Slippers way, with Hyperterminal or similar (but then you have to find out the Com port from Device manager etc), or hack another application...

2.MDMA (all 44kb of it) from here.

shows some cool info, plus lets you send the *100#1# code and receive the balance.

You can then text as normal from the supplied software "buy 2GB" etc to buy your new packs

Also noticed that once you have your drivers installed, you can connect direct (ie: dial up) with MDMA as well! so apart from texting its a one stop app, if you top up by vouchers you can USSD topup with *100#2#"voucher number"#, or in the website with your CC of choice....

This works in XP for 2degrees without connection using string *100#1# as the USSD command in the app http://www.nerve.org.za/mdma/ using a novatel UX870.

I knew you geeks would come up with a solution! Thank you.

I've noticed that USSD doesn't so well on Huawei devices all the time.... worked swell on Nokia though.

I've discovered a new way - using Mobilink 3 software there is a Network Services menu item, where one can type *100*1# for the balance and *100*2# to topup. This is a Windows solution.

while many devices will accept *100#1# the correct format is *100*1# so if you get a fail try that and it might work. Some devices seem to allow it either way but others don't.
