hey Talkit,

my bad in the speed description it was 31 kB/s combined with 10 tasks opened.
with telecom, i was getting combined 400-500 kB/s.

another example, when i was with telecom i was happy happy that i could download a 400-600mb file in under a hr, when i tried with slingshot, i forsaken the download when it said it would take like 8 hrs, jeezus, it probably would of timed out.

When I watch youtube, the video plays faster than the loading up time, therefore, having to always pause the video, when you play it again, it might playfor another 30 sec's before loading again.

That's cool - I thought it was just a typo or mistake with the units - but it does make a big difference. 31kb/s is dialup speed and 31kB/s is about 8 times faster than dialup.

Now I understand that today, even 31kB/sec seems slow, but knowing what the average traffic profile is across a large number of heavy users - I can understand why the shaping (or whatever Slingshot want to refer to their traffic management as) is as harsh as that.

(Assuming of course it's not just a fault that they will fix!)

If you keep reloading the youtube page, eventually it will send it from the proxy which is fast enough to keep up with most 480p videos, anything higher and it cant IME, but thats probably just my lousy sync speed.

Hi. We just changed to ss from telstra, purely for the all you can eat plan to ease my pdq usage. Omfg. I have spent around 5 hours in the last 2 days on hold because "we're sorry for the delay, please hold the line". They can't run an ISP for spit.

Previously on telstra, I would get a speedtest.net result of 17-18 mbits. Istill get that, sometimes more, the difference however is the ONLY thing that I get that speed on is speed tests. Browsing, downloading, streaming, steam updates, I'm lucky if I'm getting more than 30kB/s from the bastards. They can't explain it, they don't have tech staff who understand what megabit means, and their level 2 support staff had informed the level 1 (?) support member I was talking to that there was no point in logging s fault as It was nothing to do with their side.

I've told them that they can either fix it or they can chuck me back on telstra at their expense, but I doubt they'll do anything as they must be having some severe death threats by now from less than friendly customers.

I second the opinion tho, no one should sign up with slingshot, they're completely full of poo and are happy to rip their customers off.

We're being capped to 20-25kbps during day with xNet, you're speeds would be nice. It seems they change the TOS whenever they feel like it and whatever they would like to place in it.

I don't see why so many isps are around, they cannot provide anything more than what is widely available.

I feel for you guys coming from Telecom/Telstra to Slowshot internet. I'm going to change back to Telecom and will refuse to pay for the termination fee and the first month of internet. I talked to another person who are in the same boats as us and he's refusing to pay anything to slingshot.
Slingshot has the right to be payed, however, they also have to honour what they advertise. We customers should not have to pay for what we don't get. It's like paying for a big mac, only to receive a cheeseburger.

Well if telecom weren't able to get the unlimited plan to work and be profitable, it was highly unlikely a telecom reseller would. I can see them being a fair go again this year, from all the compliants here.

Have since talked to tc and am going to be changing over to them in 2 days :D going for the pro pack, which for 6 months will have 80 gig caps :)

As for the bastards at the callplus lovechild, they wont be getting a disconnection payment from me as the consumer guarantees act specifies that the product or service must meet the specifications that it was sold as, and must perform the task it was advertised as doing or the customer is entitled to return the said product or reject the delivered service for a complete refund.

And if they do press it, I'll be first in line to fair go. and newstalk zb, and a nasty website, and an angry clay sculpture.

Have you got a reasonable record of contacting them to resolve the problem?

Without that, and records of the performance you were seeing etc good luck making your case that it sucked.

cant contract out of the CGA unless you are supplying a business for the purpose of resale.

But there are a whole lot of reasonable's in the CGA, which make lawyers happy since they get to argue what is and is not legal.
