Argh,

"2degrees says that only the blue and pink units will be available in New Zealand."

No black units...
(not too concerned about missing out on the yellow, but, some would be).

shk292: Someone needs to import a stack of these:
http://hemorrdroids.net/orange-san-francisco-review/
100 pounds in UK and unlockable for a couple of $

The reason they are cheap in the UK is because they are locked!

I think he mentioned that :) just take them down to the local market 5 pound to unlock or free once the operators/Orange/T-Mobile start unlocking them

Other people were talking about the Spica. And with it being the same phone...

I too have a Spica, got it for under $400. I am pretty happy with it. Main downside of it is the lack of 2.2.

Just considering one. Trying to chose between an Ideos and LG GT540, both the same price.
Android 2.2 and QVGA conductive screen vs Android 1.6 and HVGA resistive screen. Hard to choose.

Wouldn't have minded (is that a word?) a look at the Ideos but qvga killed it for me.
The last smartphone I had was the Okta Touch running WM6.5 and froyo depending on the way I felt when I burnt a rom :D

I bought the GT540 the other day and I'm amazed at the battery life, screen (ten times better than the Okta Touch), GPS and speed.

You can actually upgrade the GT540 to 2.1 if you dont mind an aussie or UK or even baltic rom. NZ one souldn't be far behind (yeah, right)

I would buy another GT540 at the drop of a hat.

EDIT: BTW, The LG Home screen rocks!

And am about to update to 2.1

Can anyone comment on the IDEOS's battery life? What's good for a smart phone - a couple of days of reasonable usage?

A couple days of medium usage is exellcent!
I have to put my HTC Desire on charge every night if I use it for ~an hour+ (wifi or 3g)

It's a nice little smartphone. Not too fancy, does all the Android stuff. The screen is not the greatest but functional and responsive to touch. And the whole size is about right.

It will be interesting to see if the launch of this $379 Froyo handset will bring other Android 2.x handset non parallel imported prices down

Good on 2degrees for leading the charge again

The IDEOS is only 10,000 texts away from reach - 2degrees' Text Me Race started again today...

The Acer beTouch E130 needs 20,000 texts - but considering that it only has Android 1.6... meh.
