Hi All,

Does anyone from 2 Degrees (or otherwise) want to comment on the possibility of 2 Degrees supplying the Huawei IDEOS handset.

Looking at this information

"Spokesman Luke Coleman said Huawei is currently in talks with New Zealand mobile operators, whom it hopes will sell its new Android, the IDEOS, for between $US100 ($NZ138) and $US200."

Putting it together, seems there could be a chance we will see this new cheap Android handset from 2 Degrees.

I saw the IDEOS yesterday when talking to 2degrees. Yes, I belive it will come through them, but no I don't know the price.

It's an entry level Android handset - don't expect high resolution screens for one... Very responsive though and a good feel. Nice to see you can personalise it by changing the back cover with a choice of colours.

I see at GSM Arena that it's only

2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 2100

which will sort of lock it to 2Ds network for 3G unless they get a different version..

Looks like GSM Arena have their fact wrong, according to Huawei website fact sheet it supports

2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 2100

Which puts it in the Vodafone, 2Degrees and some telecom areas where they have 2100 sites

Just had a chat with the wife about these phones. If they are a reasonable price we will probably grab one each as we both want android phones just not willing to pay the $1000 price for the ones out now. Hopefully these will work on vodafone and we can jump over to the smart plan.

It's hardly even worth mentioning Telecom.Who would even bother when your phone won't work in most places without 3G 850 support.

You'd be better off with a Samsung Spica, it has a HVGA screen rather than the IDEOS' QVGA. A lot of apps won't run very well on QVGA. You can get a Spica for about $400 (pricespy), I've been using one for a couple of months and am very happy (especialy as it's my first Android phone after WinMo)

Just considering one. Trying to chose between an Ideos and LG GT540, both the same price.
Android 2.2 and QVGA conductive screen vs Android 1.6 and HVGA resistive screen. Hard to choose.
