SteveON:

"The advantage may be short-lived.
NBR understands that Vodafone will unveil new mobile broadband plans either later today, or tomorrow."

From a @vodafoneNZ tweet:
@kyhwana We already have a comprehensive suite of plans to suit different user patterns/budgets ^ME

So perhaps not. Again, just wish 2ds had coverage in hamiltron, i'd switch in a heartbeat.

Great to see, vale really coming into the Mobile broadband market, using 2Degrees in Lyall Bay, I have found no need for a landline connection to connect, but will be waiting to see what Vodafone comes up with and one would hope it is equal to or better than the latest 2D offering.

The new $150 pack is certainly much more desireable than the previous one, only $25 per month for 2GB! Cheaper than naked DSL!

That makes those people on VF and Telecom with $50~60 for 2GB looks dumb lol

Also pretty happy they make the bonus permanent, very good news for causal user

For low users they really are able to start eating into the fixed broadband market with tariffs like that, next to target high users (although however much I'd like to swap from TelstraClear to 2degrees for home i don't think they would cater for me as a reasonable cost as I use over 50GB per month), that would be a great shake up for the market. I'm sure the network impact would be devastating though but ok with just low users

Regardless of if/how/when Telecom and Vodafone respond to this, it just shows that 2degrees is on top of the game.

Exactly how I feel about it. TNZ and VFNZ wouldn't change their plans and tariffs without 2degrees being their changing the market. As consumers we are the ones who benefit whoever we are with, but we have 2degrees to thank for forcing the big two to be more competitive

Agree, and if your a 2D customer or not you'd also agree that they have made a real difference.

Who would have thought 2 years ago you could have 12GB of mobile data for $150 that lasted 6 months or2GB per month for $25.

Funny to watch 2D running rings aruond VF and TNZ. Its like watching a little kid on red bull in an old folks home.

dangerous and annoying?

Actually, hat is probably exactly how Telecom and Vodafone see 2Degrees too - dangerous and annoying.

To be fair, Telecom's current prepaid deal is quite a bit better. If you use $60 topups for the biggest bonus, then you get 1.5 GB for $22.50/month on Telecom. That works out at $135 over 6 months for 9 GB, or $15/GB. It's not quite as good as 2degrees' pricing (and of course the counter resets every month) but it's closer.

This raises another question, as Telecom is going to have to adjust the prices of the 2 and 4 GB plans, but that's really a topic for another thread.

Disclaimer: I'm a bit of a Telecom "fanboy" because nobody else has coverage in this valley...

So would I, was disappointed when 2degrees didn't cover Hamilton on launch.

Dont suppose anyone could share light on when this would be likely to happen?

Isn't that 1.5GB on done til Nov? Afterwards it still 500MB for $30? And shouldn't it be $20 instead of $22.5 after top up bonus? So unless Telecom make 1.5GB permanent (or 1GB which match 2degree after bonus) then 2degree is still better value

Btw does telecom charge 2GB as 2000MB or 2048MB? on 2degree they stick to the 1GB = 1024MB rule.. so 2GB is 2048MB, 12GB as 12288MB etc.

I got a T-Stick in October while I was away, a 500Meg one but when I activated it it said

Current Mobile Data Usage
Your data plan
:
Mobile Broadband 500MB + Bonus 1GB
Monthly included data
:
1536 MB

October ran out so I put some more money on  it and it still says 1.5Gig.

It was my understanding that Hamilton and Tauranga are the next to have 2degrees own towers.
I know in Tauranga they have been applying for planning consents for new cell towers.
