I was looking to see if 2degrees had come out with their new pay monthly plans and notices that their 3G packs no longer have the bonus and are now guaranteed. Pretty good value $20 for 1GB where earlier in the year is was $30 for 512 on VF, not sure what it is now. I am glad that the allowance is locked in!

Even better is the 10GB has increased to 12GB and now lasts for 180 days instead of the previous offer of 10GB for 90 days for the same price. Makes it worthwhile looking at buying that one now as over 6 months just works out at $30 more for double the data

I think I should clarify my own post there, I mean 6 months of $20 per month for 1GB = $ 120 or get the 12GB pack for $150 that also lasts 6 months

Here is the official release:

2degrees introduces the largest and longest lasting mobile data prepay plan in NZ

In response to customer demand for its mobile broadband products, 2degrees today introduced a 12GB mobile broadband zone Data Pack lasting a full 180 days for $150.  This is the largest and longest-lasting mobile broadband product on the market, giving customers even better value and more time to enjoy mobile Internet at their fingertips.

“Some customers are using our USB modems and WiFi routers as complete replacements for their home fixed-line connections, so this new data pack is perfect for them. But it’s also great for customers that want price certainty without topping up every month. Buy it once, and enjoy mobile data for nearly six months,” says Larrie Moore, Chief Marketing Officer, 2degrees.

12GB is the largest plan on the NZ market, significantly larger than standard competitor offerings which max out at 4GB (doubling to 8GB if you exceed your cap). Lasting 180 days, this plan is also the longest lasting pre pay plan available, meaning you don’t need to sign a contract to get the best rates on the market. Quite simply at 180 days validity, and $12.50 per GB at full ulitisation, this is the best mobile broadband plan in New Zealand today.

In addition to launching the 12GB plan, 2degrees is also making launch offers permanent across their other plans.

The announcement is the latest in a series of moves to increase access to mobile Internet services. In August, 2degrees launched Mobile Broadband Data Packs for use in its broadband zones located in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown. In September, 2degrees launched the Huawei E5 WiFi router to complement the USB modem devices already offered on its 3G network.
The new Data Pack changes go into effect from 1 November.

Probably not for a while, since 2ds broadband packs are only avaliable in four major centres :|

Looking at previous press releases, its only a matter of time before 2d are in the major cities and town. You'd think VF and TNZ would plan ahead knowing what they know.

Not a chance.   An organisation the size of Telecom or Vodafone simply do not have the agility to respond to this kind of thing in less than 3 days.

Of course, that doesn't mean they don't have *something* in the pipeline for MBB.   But a response to this? No way.

But that just looks like catchup, they aren't pioneering the industry, they are just making changes because 2degrees are making them look fools with their pricing. They should have been first to come out with these things if they wanted to be respected.

right.  As I said,  they may have something in the works,  but whatever it is it is definitely not a response to this new pricing by 2D.

I agree, there's no chance a dinosaur such as VF could make a response to 2degrees pricing this quickly, this is probably the response to the 2degrees pricing announced 3 months ago!

All I am saying is at however long this has been planned, doing it after 2degrees has announced their prices 'looks' like a response. They should have been on the ball and done this earlier.

In other words, what used to be the 'bonus' data is now included in the basic data bundle as the norm.
