Sounddude:
youtube videos are actually dilvered from lots of places around the world. One of those places being the Orcon datacenter.

When you stream the video, you will see at the bottom something like c12.lscache15.c.youtube.com. This is where the video is coming from. If you can do a nslookup on that nae and give us the IP, we can help solve the issue.

Okay then. As it happens, that particular video is loading okay now... But if I find that issue again, will a tracert do? Or is it specifically the ip address that you'd be wanting?

EDIT: I'll tell you what, rather than hijacking this thread, I'll just PM you when I have the info you need. okay?

Just the IP address would be good.

Just a quick, slightly OT question: When signing up for Orcon+ plans (I'm living within that area) they mention homeline rental. Does this completely replace a need for Telecom phoneline?

I'm cusious because I want to add a data pack but it all depends on whether we'll need to subscribe to a Telecom phone service as well.

Orcon must have done something. It's about 10.am and I'm downloading from Teranews in the US peaking from 9 to 12.1Mbits. Normally I'm lucky to get 3 Mbits at this time of day..

Yes, I have the same problem with iPhone 4 and iPad.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Pure terrible. Really.  Admission of pretty much what most people suspected in the first place?  And after all the customer issues and the recommended advice to "log a call"?  Terrible.

Best of luck to all Orcon customer that have been suffering   Smile

just switched to xtra last week - I can now watch HD YouTube at 6pm at night. Can stream BBC Iplayer video as well.

Connection hasn't cut once, and to put the cherry on the cake, the crackly line I had before which Orcon said was normal, is crystal clear.

Vote with your feet people

still can't stream 1080 (or 720 for that matter) from Apple trailers or youtube properly. Highly disappointing, will reboot my device tonight when I get back.

No videos on youtube play on the iPhone/iPad properly either. I had better service from Telecom's local caching servers on Big Time.

What is the server the stream coming from? it should say "v1.lscache1.c.youtube.com" or something simular. Once you find the name, do a nslookup up it and post the results here.

Also, are you using Orcons DNS (60.234.1.1, 60.234.2.2), if not you wont be redirected to the local orcon caches.

Apple trailers come from Akamai, which are also local, but requires you to use Orcon DNS servers.

nslookup v19.lscache4.c.youtube.com
Server: 60.234.2.2
Address: 60.234.2.2#53

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: v19.lscache4.c.youtube.com
Address: 60.234.81.151

Cached video 720 was playing fine there.

Yes - already using Orcon DNS

Akamai averages about 900kB/s which is not enough to stream anything.

Sync rate is 1.020 up / 22.413 down

Speedtest to LA California is 4.8mbits/s down and 0.7mbits/s up
