Hey guys!

Cam (^CP from the Orcon Twitter) here with some good news. Many of you have noticed that we've had some congestion on parts of our upstream network, so we're getting some additional capacity over the weekend to help with us.

Check out our network status page for more info.

http://www.orcon.net.nz/support/network_status

Apologies for any inconvenience that has been caused.

Perhaps you could make it a full time fix so that I can actually watch a YouTube video without it buffering 12 times a minute.

My understanding is that Orcon has a google cache in place for things like youtube. Perhaps you issue isn't with Orcon's international congestion

The video is only in the cache if another Orcon customer has already watched it.

You'd think some decent capacity planning would mean they don't run out of bandwidth.

Or, maybe that is their plan ..... wait till user complaint levels reach a certain threshold, then buy some more bandwidth. If not enough customers are complaining , drop a little bandwidth.

Too slow, Orcon. ~2 weeks of silence, denial and no word of a fix drove me away. Perhaps your more patient customers will stick around...

Could you also profile some plans for exclusive gaming perhaps, I know you setup lines for WoW, but also HoN, SC2 and FFXIV Online too would be great ^^

Glad to hear this, would be nice to get a good email and a discount for anyone with bad service with the speeds and over 100 disconnects in the last month..... -.-"...

@bameron: So this is fixed, is it?

http://bit.ly/bd8GTz

Check out what attempting to watch youtube videos is really like for your (Orcon's) customers.

Youtube rarely streams, it will usually spend more time buffering than actually playing back.
And that's not on high def, that's just on standard def.

At least someone there is trying to get it sorted out anyway... Just not succeeding so far.

Where is the slow youtube being sourced from? An IP would be nice, as it will help us track down the issue.

Its not an Orcon bandwidth issue, as mentioned we put in a substantial upgrade last night.

Hi sounddude, thanks for your help previously:
Do you mean which youtube video is it?
Because it's many youtube videos from youtube.com
Or do you mean what is my Orcon ip address?
Cos that's 60.234.138.139 if that helps?
Cheers.

youtube videos are actually dilvered from lots of places around the world. One of those places being the Orcon datacenter.

When you stream the video, you will see at the bottom something like c12.lscache15.c.youtube.com. This is where the video is coming from. If you can do a nslookup on that nae and give us the IP, we can help solve the issue.
