Your first hop is to the Snap servers in Christchurch (111.69.16.68) then you're off out in to the wild.  It is the same for me.

Your line > Cabinet/Exchange > Backhaul > Handover Link (to ISP) > ISP Network > ISP's transit to national and international destinations > Destination

It is going AK (your place) > CHCH (Snap's network core) > AK (gpforums host maxnet) which is why the ping is 50ms instead of ~16.

If you are a gamer in Auckland, Snap is not an ideal choice (until they complete handover links in Auckland for adsl).

You're looking at +30-40ms vs Telecom for pings/latency.

long term solutions are gonna be Pacific fiber and (regional?) fiber groups right?
