So today COD blackops was unlocked on steam and so i immediately got onto playing it, how ever the multiplayer is horrid becasue my ping of more often than not 100+ back on slingshot (iknow rite >.<) we never got such high pings to Aus.
I know that our traffic must go from the north island to Chch and then back up again (or so i think). But surely there can be something to drop that ping.

I never really noticed it on MMOs or on minecraft but COD is really quite effected by this

Where's the server you're playing on located?

Run a tracert to the server ip address, it will probably be some weird routing most likely at the game hosting companies end.

As far as I am aware, no not yet.  I emailed Snap a few weeks back asking the question about peering in Auckland and they said that the process was well advanced but not ready.  I am waiting for the time when I peer in Auckland, should save me some milliseconds!

If that is the case then it is very strange, they where quite clear in the emails that it wasn't ready for consumption yet.  I've just done a few more trace routes and speed test and I'm still routed via Christchurch rather than Auckland (Where I am based) as the ping has not altered, and the trace routes dump me out in Christchurch and then onwards.

Perhaps the system is running but they haven't moved everyone on to it yet?

Could well be, would have thought they would have sent the Auckland one live before the Dunedin one but hohum. Ill pop an email off to Troy later n see if we can shed more light on this.

An Update on the POP's

First up I must appoligize, In my eagerness to help I got carryed away. While Snap do have several POP's around the country, Troy is not sure yet which of the POP's are live or not, so please disregard my comments above. Hopefully he will sign up with GZ and let us know when he has had the chance to find out.
I guess if they arent live yet, dont stress too much, I'm sure they wont be far off, good things take time.
Troy, I do appoligize if I got you in trouble!

just a quick update apparently they (being snap i assume) upgraded the local cabnet and so reset all our profiles so interleaving may have been turned on pretty murkey on specifics though. We are currently running 103 ping to Sydney which in my mind is still 20 ping too high but usable i guess

Yeah get interleaving off then find out the ip address of the game server and do a tracert

start menu > run > cmd > tracert xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

* replace xxx with the ip address or hostname.
