DeroyBoy: The OP wants a plan with calling minutes and does not need texts. Seems like a perfectly reasonable request to me.

Also Australia has MTR and they still can offer unlimited calling, so that is just a red herring in the argument.

That said 2degrees has been the best thing for NZ mobile customers in that they have significantly reduced the costs of calling.

Next time I upgrade my phone I definitely will look at them as an option.

Umm... Not perfectly reasonable.... Why would carriers choose to carry for the minority and not the mass. Of course the companies are going to be creating plans for market demand and not the niche market forming, these are actions that would later be taken.

And.... If you havent noticed this is New Zealand, not Australia... two very different countries.

Agreed... 2degrees has been the best thing for mobile customers in NZ for a very long time!

SteveON: Actually texting is a two way service, you send a text and 90% of the time you get a reply... Unless you have no friends.

...lol

SteveON: Am I right asuming that you expect 1million minutes for $5?

...lol

I was just saying it was a reasonable request to make in a public forum, not that 2degrees should drop everything to meet his request.

I am well aware this is NZ not AU. The comments about Australia were in response to earlier posts.

I love to hate this entire argument...
NZ is Hilly + NZ has a small population = 2x the cost to service the same customers in OZ.

I am stoked with this month receiving over 300 minutes for only $39 (thanks to a billing change) I have also used up 600ish sms's which was $10 worth of value on the other network; so effectively I'm only paying $29/mo or 9c/min

Agreed but that has nothing to do with mtr.

.... you must have friends.... well 90% off the time

I find 2degrees great and roughly use 500-700 sms's each month... especially around this busy time of the year

OPL http://www.orcon.net.nz/mobile/plans   Have you looked at more than the main networks? There are companies like Orcon, Black and white, and Telstra Clear out there. I'm with Orcon because it offers what I had on Vodafone, but I don't have to top up any more. All of their plans have base minutes, and no texts (except the purple plan which has nothing pre-set). Most of them except the purple plan also come with Getting Started credit, which is kind of alright, seeming it pays your bill for a few months.

I have looked at other Operators options and think 2degrees is the cheapest. My beef is the huge (1000) txts allowed (1000) far exceeds even the use of the loudest critic above. More data or minutes and less txts say 100 free like the existing prepay top up bonus would be a good option. cheers George

I cannot see the rational sense in getting locked into long term contracts. At least wait for the final determination by the Commerce Commission concerning mobile termination rates due at the end of March 2011.

I realise there are no contracts with the current 2 degrees mobile plans.

And then wait to see if the possible change in termination has any effect on the retail pricing (I think it wont really) and reevaluate.

I dont think term contracts make any sense unless the buy out price is reasonable compared to the subsidy that you get on a handset. Some of the telcos have particually unreasonable break fees IMO.
