Ragnor: Even if you don't have XT with non stop text still active or whatever it was called you can still gets a $299 phone for around $89ish because of the Telecom TXT Anyone 2500 addon, which is currently doubled ("double joy") for December.

So 10000 txt's for an IDEOS

$5 for 2degrees SIM
+ $30 for Telecom SIM #1
+ $12 for TXT Anyone 2500 #1 (5000 txts due to "double joy" promo)
+ $30 for Telecom SIM #2
+ $12 for TXT Anyone 2500 #2 (5000 txts due to "double joy" promo)

Then automate sending the txt's via PC Suite software for your phone or an app with a huge text area that breaks down the txt into loads of xyz character sms messages.

Enjoy your $299 phone for $89

.. and then rinse and repeat

Anyway while this promo seems pretty low brow, it's probably a mistake to not take advantage of a mobile industry cat fight.

It's lower since the SIMs come preloaded with credit.

$20 credit (after registration) for the Telecom SIMs means that it's only $64.90 for an IDEOS (counting SIMs at $29.95 RRP)

Don't forget time...

I'm cheap but I require $25/hr to get off my arse, I estimate I spent 4 hours getting the promo going and checking to see if its going well, this is over a 3 day period.
So 4*25 = $100 for my time...

From memory, *35*PIN*16# will bar incoming SMS, so if you don't mind not receiving SMS on your normal 2degrees number for a few days you can save yourself the cost of another 2degrees SIM too. (#35*PIN*16# to unbar again later).

*Edit - post editor doesn't like you putting things in greater-than/less-than quotes. :-)

iPad Pro 11" + iPhone 15 Pro Max + 2degrees 4tw!

Consider with 10c a message MTA rates, every 10,000 txt's from Telecom to 2degrees are generating $1000 for 2degrees.

Surprised Telecom haven't reacted faster to put fair use limitations on the number of messages sent per day from from number x to number y.

SteveON: The only reason the promotion works is because of telecom who have still the Unlimited SMS promotion which ends soon.

It would be silly for vodafone to ask the same promotion. I guarantee you that the winner of this text promotion has a sms bomber setup from an XT phone.

I have three unlimited sims, want one?

I would like one if they are going.

If I bar incoming SMS do they still count towards the race?

If I bar incoming SMS do they still count towards the race?

People have reported after being spammed by a particular number in a very short period of time (specifically in #textmerace) that texts from that number become blocked from being received on the recipient's handsets from the next day. However, texts were still counted.

Seems like 2degrees has an auto spam blocking thing in the network anyway?

So anyway, because it appears that 2degrees count texts somewhere in the network before they pass it onto your handset, the answer most likely is yes.

I can safely tell you they do not call you up till the end of the month; I normally send 3,000 txts a month, and last month I sent 45,000 - they gave me 3 warnings, but took no action until the end of the month. same with 3 other friends.

No but just think about it, even if you awake for 16 hours a day every day of the month. thats still 10 texts every minute your awake - thats not possible unless you simply sit inside for a whole month doing nothing but texting. And would would even text a person back that much.

who says you need to send each text individually?  I could send one really long 10+ part message to an entire contacts list that consists of 300+ copies of the same number.  that's 3000 txts right there.

It's a bit of effort to set up initially,  but once it is done I can do it as many times as I like.  I could easily send tens of thousands of texts in one day no problem.  the only limitation is whether the network can handle it.

However,  I am going to say fake for a different reason.  Other than the textmerace there is no reason to send this many texts, and since none of the textmerace winners have had that many texts this must be fake.  I think the highest I saw was around 150,000. It will probably be more this time though since it is lasting much longer.

In one race someone had over 500,000 after the first day but was then taken off the leaderboard.
