It's a clear conspiracy that I don't have a mobile phone!

I'm calling 2deg and they're not answering the phone...

I'm on their web site, clicked 'buy now' and it went to the error page...

There are piles of them on TradeMe as they were offered as prizes in the 2Degrees TextMe race

Ok, thanks MD, the suggestion of a 8150 for a cust was too cool...

I love the way you can just throw your vf sim in it and it just works!

I had to laugh in hvn when the guy say "so you won't be wanting to use your $150 air time credit?!"... someone could have mentioned that a week ago and it would have made it much easier to convince the wife I could have one and I really can't see it being to hard to convince half a dozen friends to make a jump!

You realise guys that I'm going to be back here on GZ with dozen's of annoying newbie questions now about android phones!

My first question is what sip client do I use with 2talk and where do I get it and how do I get it on to my new phone... I want a 'cordless' phone.

Hey Don,

There is still time to get them all on board! We've extended the offer until the 10th of January now.

Regarding SIP clients, I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to comment about this as I haven't had the chance to make use of this functionality. I would imagine though that there are a whole multitude of choices on Android market to choose from and test.

You can always speak directly to 2talk and find out what they recommend as they should know what works well with their service. I'm sure it wouldn't be the first time they have been asked either.

Cheers

^MD

ya thanks MD, think 2talk will be getting sick of me asking them endless questions...

I'm really keen to turn this thing into a wifi cordless phone...

I had a really interesting chat with one retailer this afternoon who told me they were not allowed to comment on voip and sip. I found that just bonkers... I get the whole thing about it taking call revenue away, but from my pov it will just drive more and more data revenue as the more you use it, the more you use it.... which would then follow on to ppl having more data credit --> leads on to ppl using more data applications. Making 'voice' your only application on your network really would seem to be bonkers to me. Just for the record, it wasn't a 2deg reseller.

Android seems insane... so much stuff on this puppy that it's going to take me a month just get get my head round it all.

I think I read somewhere in the 2degree T&C that VOIP traffic is blocked, or could be blocked across the data portion of the network.

I'm sure I saw a nice vpn feature on my toy. ;)

Tell you want... why would you buy music, videos or pay tv? I'm already in love with you tube on this thing other than the fact it seems to stall... I can see my data use going bonkers as I show it off.

Being able to make my home number follow me to mates places is going to be the killer though...

Nah it's not blocked. It's just not promoted as reliable and they have the right to track you down and take your puppies away if you get caught.

BTW Viper works brilliant on 2deg, assuming you are both in decent 3G :o)

We find that SIPDroid works well.

regards
the team @ 2talk

As for reliable 3g data... pffft... if they want ppl to use 3g data they'll make it reliable. Can't sell a service that doesn't work.

Don't know about 2deg data yet cause their web site was down when we tried to reg the sim in the store, but I can tell you that I think that VF data is bonkers cool with this puppy!

Sofar...

* google maps voice search "bunnings" - then followed the map while the wife drove!
* youtube voice search "phil collins" - then just listen...

I whacked my 2GB SD card in it compelete with all my wma music files off my collection of CDs and it told me it didn't support the file format... fail, oh well.... last time I buy a CD, I'll just use the youtube app it came with.
