Got a number of customers who's t.nz bills are just getting out of hand.

Can I have the abridged version of what they should be doing?

What do calls cost/m, can I have 'on account' option.

2Talk do a nice affilate pgm, does 2deg do same?

Is there a porting cost?

Is there an online protal to review what the customer is doing so we can tune their plans?

Is there a cc PAYG option to just auto top up?

Can they pay using dd/internet banking?

Is it easy to flick from one acc option to an other part way though month?  Can you move down as well as up?

Yip, haven't read 2deg web site, don't have time today to troll though annoying provider web sites, just love some quick heads up :)

Hi there,

Quite a few questions you have there! It may be easier to do this over email rather than me replying with a wall of text on the forums. Also this way if you have any questions to follow up with it will make things a lot easier if this is done via an email thread.

If you don't mind, PM me your email address and I will reply back with all the info you're after.

Cheers

Actually it would be easier to do it in here just incase someone else is looking for the same sort of answers they can simply search and find this topic

SteveON: Why didn't you?

Your answer included nic pics and was about 1/3 the len of the email I got from md, thou his was also useful.  thanks to both of you.

To be honest my temper for provider web sites has just run out, it's quicker to ask someone on a forum, I confess I just don't bother with them any more.

My expectation now is that providers will monitor big forums like gz and have hd staff respond as required.  check my post history, vf did exactly that yesterday with in 20 mins of my q and gave solid answer.

Tolorance for l1hd, telco web sites = <0

Again Steve, MD, thanks for answers.  I need to compare that with what my customers are doing with t.nz, but I get the impression it's just a no brainer!

MD, I'd just post that email here, it had some other really good content in it.

Ok... next questions..

Phones...

Got the clients mobile acc this afternoon... Guessing we'll put him on a $129 given how much he seems to use it.

I explained it came with txt, he said "so".

I explained it came with free data... his eyes lite up... when I explained he could get email to mobile he got excited about a new phone.

So, recommendations?

Requirements:

* Something that will let me set up email for him.
* ability to suck data to his laptop without plugging crap in. (win7, new machine, has bt if that helps)
* robust as possible with in reason - he's a builder with big fingers.

Budget: Let's not go bonkers with an iphone, I'm guessing I'd get $300 - $500 approved, or am I kidding myself here?

TIA guys.

As you mentioned internet tethering to a computer, I personally would recommend the Huawei Ideos 8150. Instead of using Bluetooth and functioning as a computer modem, it uses wifi and functions as a Wifi router/modem, so there is no mucking around with drivers on the laptop(As long as the laptop has wifi). Also at $299 for 2.2 Android with a capacitive touch screen it's a pretty sharp deal.

The downside of the above scenario is that functioning as a wireless router and a 3G modem at the same time will drain the battery pretty quick, so it depends how much daily usage he would drive through it.
Another consideration is with a larger capacitive touch screen compared to a regular phone, battery life in general is a bit lower and with your client being a builder, having a larger screen compared to a regular phone makes this more fragile so that would be another thing to keep in mind.

There are many other phones available that are capable of functioning as a wireless router, however this would require further research. I would recommend popping into a Harvey Normans, Dick Smith Electronics and so forth to see what other options are available.

As a general purpose phone I would expect it to last around a day between charges. Using it as a Wifi router/3G modem I would cautiously say 2-3 hours of constant usage. There are quite a few variables that will affect this. Having said that if your client is really only checking emails and doing casual web browsing they will be able to do this directly off the Huawei phone without the need for a computer.

This is a good solution for staying on top of emails and forming brief replies on the phone itself, but can become tedious writing long emails.

I have included a link to the Huawei phone below :

Nice. I'll present that recommendation, seems great. Thanks again for all the help!

The data usage will be limited.

I picked up an IDEOS earlier this week and I have to say I am impressed with it. Packs quite a punch for the price.

Wanted to test drive one first, but no-one carrying 2degrees phones here have live ones, only dummies. But reviews were favorable, so I bought one. Once I'd suss'ed the basics I took it around the local 2degree stockist so they sales people could have a play (I don't know any of them, but they were all keen to see what it could do).

[2degrees take note - they (the sales people) find it very hard to sell a phone that they've not been able to have a play with! You need to put an incentive there for a sales person in each store to get and use one!!]

And it plays Angry Birds - YAY!

MD if you're floating about I need to know where in Christchurch I can actually get one of these.  Do you guys have any quick way of finding out without my ringing round every store in chch who has actually got one in stock or do I just have to order one on line?

If the answer is 'order on line' what's the actual lead time can you tell me?

My dear old 6234 died last night and despite the best efforts of DSE and the Vodafone store in Shirley they were not able to breath life in to it so I now need to get a new phone sorted for myself so thought I'd take up your suggestion.

SmithCity, Harvey Normans, Dick Smiths, Warehouse Stationary - they'd be the Christchurch stockists. Some only carry a very small number of the phones so call first.
