kdn: yes sending a notice to the number of the phone that hasn't been used, informing that because the number hasn't been used it will be cancelled seems very logical doesn't it.

So would it be 2degrees fault if you did not check the email address?

if they made reasonable attempt to make contact with the account holder before shutting down an account then there would be no grounds to make a complaint. If they had sent an email to the address I provided, or a letter to the street address I had provided and i had disregarded them both I would not be here.

I doubt there is any reason to continue on informing kdn is in the wrong. There is enough information to support 2degrees stance on disconnecting the number - that is probably not in dispute. But I am still wanting to know what is preventing kdn from re-securing this number as he has posted earlier it does appear the number is in the number pool, if so, fish it out and it's a win/win.

Golden Numbers - and from what kdn said, it sounds like this may be one - are reserved and not part of the general number pool. Normal numbers can be pulled back by Care on request (there is a quarantine period for exactly this reason), but golden numbers are not available.

If they sent out a letter to everyone whos number was about to expire then it would cost alot in postage alone. I think some responsibility needs to be taken by you as the customer if the number was so important to check that it is still active.

You dont get a letter if your WOF on your car is about to expire (or not that I have ever had) because it is down to you to keep an eye on it.

I understand your frustration I really do however I can also see the otherside of it. Theres process's in place in every company and sadly they dont please everyone however they are a necessary evil to make sure a company operates smoothly.

If a comapny whoever they were made an exception for someone because they come on to a forum and have a moan then everybody would be doing it and this forum would be bloody dull and depressing to read.

I think you'll just going to have to suck it up. As has been mentioned before if it was that important make sure you read up about the expiry rules before you get your stuff printed

Also before a comment is made I would like everyone to pay special attention to my signature on this one

Should maybe someone check to see if it is a 'golden number' - it might just be a real cool silver number.

Poor planning on your part kdn.... it really is that simple.

Why do you expect 2deg to send you an email when they can send a text on their service???
(Whether you choose to use it not is hardly their concern.)

Unfortunately you failed to remember to top up the account amongst all your other activities.... We all make mistakes, sometimes they cost a little, sometimes they cost a lot, but it doesn't change the fact that we made them.

It's important to remember that ALL mobile operators expire prepay accounts after a period of time since last topup, if not further topups are made. This has been the "rule" since the first prepay offerings in the market, more than ten years ago.

This means it could've happened with any operator.

Telecom dont, I have one here that has not seen a topup since the number was ported off vodafone to them the week porting became available, still working fine with a zero dollar ballance on it.

Same thing happened to me on 2 degrees with a number I ported over from vodafone that I was hoping to be able to keep using, I ported it because it was soon to expire on vodafone and at $2 to port it was cheaper than $20 to keep it with VF, thats gone now. I also lost about 3 other numbers that I had with them from back when they launched, one of which I was planing on using once my slingshot deals were over with.

If 2 degrees are going to email me about so many other things to an address that I had to get their staff to load because of their broken website then they can email out an account details. Once you have a zero ballance on the sim, there is no visible expiry date in the 2 degrees abortion of a website to even know when you have to top it up by.

In addition when mums ballance got to a year old, it was just luck that she saw the text in the evening that it was going to expire that day, not everyone looks at their phone daily and one days warning is barely enough. There was no other texts before that since I can see all the texts on the phone since she doesnt delete them.

It's pretty simple T's & C's folks - top up once every 12 months to keep your prepay number alive, otherwise it will be gone forever!

Can't have people keepin all those awesome lookin' numbers but not using them now can we? That's not very fair for the rest who want them now.

As I understand it the 2degrees terms of service state that prepaid accounts must be topped up every 365 days, and there is no commitment to provide advance notice of this taking place.

Therefore 2degrees have complied with the contract of supply and you haven't.

It's all they can do.

The Ts & Cs are fairly clear....if you read them.

In a "project"....this would be bad project management, not fully knowing or understanding the parameters around a resource.....and taking them into account.

Thats sound harsh.....but that's how it is.

So the OP had 13 months to topup and keep the number. Only one party caused the issue here
